MILOOK | This quarter, the Grade 1 Project-Based Learning (PBL) output, "Guardians of the Community: Stewards of God’s Creation," focused on deepening students’ awareness of community safety across various weather conditions.
During the Laro Phase, students completed a KWL (Know–Want to Know–Learn) chart in response to the question, “What do you know about the weather in the Philippines?” Using their initial ideas, they formulated the class’s essential question focused on preparedness for different weather conditions.
In the Likha Phase, students engaged in subject-based activities that deepened their understanding of weather and community preparedness while allowing them to express their voice and make meaningful choices. In English, they delivered oral presentations on their chosen weather conditions. In Filipino and Makabansa, they designed informative poster signages tailored to messages they felt were most important for the community. In STEM, they developed their own Weather Adventure Plans and made decisions on how best to prepare for different scenarios. In CLE-GMRC, they illustrated acts of goodness they believed were essential in supporting others. In Art, they crafted clay sculptures representing clothing appropriate for various weather conditions. To enrich this phase, Mr. Araon Quimora, the GS Administrative Officer, was invited as a collaborator to share how the MCGS community prepares for potential emergencies brought about by changing weather conditions.
In the Linang Phase, students showcased their clay sculptures in an exhibit and participated in a Weather-Ready Fashion Show, where they presented their work to an audience and interacted with peers and members of the school community.
Through this experience, students strengthened their confidence in presenting ideas, engaged with others through dialogue and feedback, and deepened their understanding of preparedness while embracing their role in caring for their community.
