Eric Dane (1972–2026), the acclaimed American actor celebrated for his iconic role as Dr. Mark "McSteamy" Sloan on Grey's Anatomy, passed away on February 19, 2026, at the age of 53. His death followed a courageous 10-month battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease he publicly disclosed in April 2025. In his final year, Dane became a "fierce advocate" for the ALS community. He served on the board of directors for Target ALS and was recently named one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people in health for his advocacy work. Shortly before his passing, he appeared in an episode of the NBC drama Brilliant Minds, portraying a firefighter living with ALS.
