After delivering one of the most talked-about lectures of our Fall Conference, we had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Larry Palevsky. His insights on practical strategies for evaluating and treating kids diagnosed with ADD/ADHD captivated the audience, sparking conversations that kept going long after he left the stage. Dr. Palevsky shared incredible, actionable tips for practitioners and parents alike, making it a session people are still buzzing about! #hindbrain #forebrain #neurodevelopment #impulsivity #sympathetic #parasympathetic #nervoussystem #medMAPS #MAPSfall2024 #specialneeds #pediatrics #addictionexposure

Do you feel strongly that your child’s symptoms are related to a microbiome imbalance? New research is showing fantastic results as it relates to Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) and Autism. FMT involves transferring fecal matter from a healthy donor into the gut of a recipient to restore a balanced gut microbiome. 💩The idea behind using FMT to help with autism lies in the emerging understanding of the gut-brain connection. Researchers have observed that there’s a bidirectional communication system between the gut and the brain, often referred to as the gut-brain axis. The gut microbiome, which consists of trillions of microorganisms, including bacteria, can influence the brain and its functions. In Autism cases, researchers have noted differences in the composition of the gut microbiome compared to neurotypical individuals. This has led to the hypothesis that an imbalance in the gut microbiome might play a role in the development or exacerbation of certain ASD symptoms. FMT aims to address this by introducing a more diverse and balanced set of gut bacteria from a healthy donor, potentially influencing the recipient’s gut-brain axis in a positive way. 🧪Studies done on children with ASD after a FMT have shown improved behavioral and physical symptoms. While still difficult to access in US as of now, this is a very exciting area of science we are keeping a close eye on! It also shows us with even more support, the connection between the gut and the brain and just how important it is to support our healthy gut bacteria. 🤗 Would you try this for yourself or child? 👇

🧠✨ Brain health breakthrough from #MedMAPS! At the MedMAPS conference I interviewed Dr. Krishna Doniparthi, MD (@drnkd)—a physician who trains practitioners worldwide on using fatty acids, phospholipids, and plasmalogens to support neurodevelopment and protect the brain. I asked him: “How can we improve neuron growth and brain function?” His answer was a masterclass. Key takeaways: • Balanced fatty acids are the raw materials for healthy cell membranes. • Phospholipids help repair and stabilize neurons so signals fire more efficiently. • Plasmalogens (a special class of phospholipids) appear to be crucial for synapses, antioxidant defense, and overall neuroprotection—especially relevant in autism and neurodegenerative conditions. I left his talk inspired by how targeted lipid therapy may help calm inflammation, support cognition, and boost neuroplasticity when part of a comprehensive plan. Have you tried lipid support for brain health? Drop your questions below and I’ll share more from the interview. 💬👇 • @drnkd @medmapsofficial #chefpatriciashani #chef4us #Neurodevelopment #AutismSupport #FunctionalMedicine #BrainNutrition #Plasmalogens #Phospholipids #FattyAcids #MedMAPS #Pediatrics #Neuroinflammation #CellMembraneHealth #Mitochondria

Wow, what an incredible experience at the MedMAPS conference. ✨ It’s always inspiring to be in a room filled with clinicians, researchers, and colleagues who are just as passionate about advancing care for children with complex needs. On Friday, I had the privilege of presenting twice: → Precision Medicine Panel on integrating genomics into clinical practice → Genomic Guided Medication Considerations for Autism Spectrum Disorder Both talks highlighted something I see every day in practice: genetics matter. When we understand how SNPs, methylation, neurotransmitters, and inflammation intersect, we can create safer, more effective treatment strategies for children and families who often feel out of options. I’m leaving this conference energized, encouraged, and more committed than ever to bringing the latest science back into the hands of families. Because every child deserves care that goes beyond symptom management—care that looks at the root causes and opens doors to real progress. 📍 Want to learn more about how functional genomics can support your child? Dr. Jaban Moore, DC, shares what makes the MAPS community different at our latest MAPS Spring Clinician Conference. For many clinicians, finding the right education is only part of it. What really stands out at MAPS is the willingness to share. Conversations don’t stop when a session ends. Clinicians are exchanging ideas, talking through cases, and continuing those discussions beyond the conference. As Dr. Moore puts it, clinicians are sharing phone numbers so they can call each other later to talk about and get counsel on how they’re approaching specific cases. There’s a level of openness here that’s hard to find. People are genuinely invested in helping each other grow and improve outcomes for their patients. That sense of community is what makes the work feel less isolating—and far more possible. Would you like to be a part of it next time? 🎟️ Early Bird Registration for our MAPS Fall CME conference in Philadelphia, PA is available until May 6. This isn’t a rumor. This isn’t a headline. This is peer-reviewed research from the scientist who has spent over a decade studying acetaminophen and neurodevelopment: 👉 Newborns cannot metabolize acetaminophen. In our interview, Dr. William Parker, the lead researcher in this field, explained something most parents and physicians have never been told: Newborns lack the enzyme pathway needed to process acetaminophen. Veterinarians know this pathway well, it’s why cats can’t be given Tylenol. Yet newborns, who have the same metabolic limitation, are still given it in hospitals every day. This isn’t about panic. This is about informed consent. Parents deserve to know: What medications are given What pathways are involved What the research says And where uncertainty still exists Because once you know better, you can ask better questions. We don’t need more silence. We need transparency, conversation, and better science guiding decisions for our children. If this information is new to you… you’re not alone. We’ll keep teaching. We’ll keep advocating. We’ll keep asking better questions. Because children deserve informed care, not automatic care. 🔗 Learn more at medmaps.org #MedMAPS #AcetaminophenResearch #InformedConsent #Neurodevelopment #TransparencyInMedicine #ParentAdvocacy #RootCauseCare

Each child is their own case study — unique, with their own learning style, needs, experiences, and path of development. That’s the message Dr. Taylor Bean heard at her first MAPS conference in 2016, and it changed everything about how she practices medicine. As a naturopathic doctor, she already understood the importance of treating the whole person. But in complex pediatrics, she discovered something deeper: 👉 Two children can have the same symptoms…and require completely different testing, different sequencing, and different treatment. That’s the MAPS difference. Not protocols. Not templates. Not “try this for everyone.” For clinicians who are curious, who question the “one-size-fits-all” model, and who want better tools for complex cases: MAPS is where that learning happens. 🧬 Spring MAPS Conference 📍 March 12–14, 2026 • Charlotte, NC 🔗 medmaps.org #MedMAPS #IntegrativePediatrics #FunctionalMedicine #RootCauseCare #PersonalizedMedicine #Nof1 #AutismCommunity #PANS #PANDAS #ComplexPediatrics
