Inside a drop of water, this tiny animal is running a microscopic feeding machine. Looks like this is a Bdelloid rotifer. The spinning “propeller” at the front isn’t a wheel at all. it’s thousands of tiny beating hairs called cilia creating currents that pull food straight into its mouth. At this scale, water behaves more like syrup than the water we know, so these creatures evolved clever ways to move and feed. #microscopy #microbiology #smallthingsbigwonders #hiddenworld #microorganisms

Did you know your tears form unique crystal shapes under a microscope? 🧬👁️ Quinten Geldhof, also known as @microhobbyist, zooms in on dried tears to reveal stunning, snowflake-like patterns. Each type of tear, emotional, reflex, or basal, has a different chemical makeup, forming different crystal shapes as they dry. #Microbiology #Microscope #Microorganisms #Tears #Science

Zoom in far enough… and you’ll find another world. What you’re seeing is a microscopic ecosystem- likely a tardigrade moving through algae and other microorganisms in a thin film of water. Tardigrades (also called “water bears”) are typically about 0.3 - 0.5 mm long and live in moss, freshwater and marine environments. At this scale, fresh water green spherical algae act like trees to these tiny creatures or massive barriers. Movement that looks slow to us is actually normal locomotion relative to their size and environment. These micro-ecosystems are highly active, filled with bacteria, protozoa, rotifers and tiny invertebrates interacting constantly. Studying them helps scientists understand resilience, extremophile survival, nutrient cycling and even the limits of life in space. Entire functioning worlds exist beyond what the naked eye can see- structured, dynamic, and scientifically significant. Video reposted from @wvanegmond_micro 🔸🔸 Desmids are freshwater algae with remarkable shapes and ornamentations. This is one of the larger species, Micrasterias rotata. They live mainly in acidic bogs so they are pretty rare. This is a time-lapse of a Micrasterias that is undergoing cell division. #micrasterias #desmid #scienceart #artscience #algae #microportrait #microorganisms #microscopy #micro #microbiology #micropolitan #micropolitanmuseum #wimvanegmond

How big is a single strand of hair compared to a microbe? 🧬💇‍♀️ Quinten Geldhof, also known as @microhobbyist, helps us zoom way in to see just how massive your hair is in the world of microorganisms. Genetics, age, and ethnicity all influence hair thickness, making it a surprisingly useful scale for understanding microbiology. #Microbiology #Microscope #Microorganisms #Hair #Science

We may still be having winter weather, but life doesn’t take a break just because it’s cold! ❄️ Under a thick layer of ice, this forest pond is teeming with microscopic life. 🔬 “Among the microscopic creatures that live under the ice, in just one single drop of water I found protozoans, diatoms, golden algae, crustacean nauplius larvae, desmids, cyanobacteria, rotifers. Microscopic life represents another incredible dimension of life that we don’t usually get to appreciate.” By the way, did you see the coyote footprints on the ice at the beginning of the video? 🐕 🔬: Olympus CX31 microscope at 40X, 100X and 200X magnification. #microscopy #microscope #microscopio #protozoans #microorganisms #protozoa #desmids #rotifers #nauplius #microorganismos #winter #invierno #biology #biologia #nature #naturelovers #ecology

Bilimle kalin.
