I'm on a mission to try all the wagashi in Kanazawa, this one was by far the best! A more contemporary wagashi made without any synthetic colors, just pigments from flowers. It was so so good and super cute! 🥰 #japan #kanazawa #wagashi #pastrychef #baker

– Kayu Akanean – A Quiet Moment of Wagashi Reflecting Tokushima’s Four Seasons Located in Tokushima City, Kayu Akanean is one of the prefecture’s most renowned wagashi shops. Rooted deeply in the local climate and culture, the shop has long conveyed the changing seasons of Tokushima through traditional Japanese sweets. Standing at its entrance, you naturally feel a gentle distance from the rush of everyday life, as your mind slowly settles. ⸻ Sincere Craftsmanship, Rooted in Ingredients At the heart of Akanean’s wagashi are carefully selected domestic ingredients, including Awa wasanbon sugar. The sweetness is restrained, leaving behind a clear, elegant finish. Each piece is meticulously crafted to bring out the natural character of its ingredients. There is no flamboyance—only the quiet confidence of skilled craftsmanship and sincerity. With every bite, a subtle depth reveals itself, lingering softly in the heart. ⸻ Small Landscapes of the Seasons The wagashi displayed in the showcase appear like delicate snapshots of the seasons themselves. Subtle hues, refined forms—each piece resembles a miniature landscape inspired by nature, seasonal events, and the passing of time. To admire them with the eyes, to hold them in the hand, and finally to taste—this gentle sequence of actions guides you into a calm, unhurried moment. ⸻ A Serene Space to Savor Wagashi The interior is understated and tranquil, allowing the presence of the wagashi to stand out. Free of unnecessary decoration, the space naturally draws your focus toward the act of tasting itself. Step away from the busyness of daily life and spend a quiet moment face to face with sweetness. Here, time flows softly and without urgency. ⸻ Access & Information • Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture • 8-minute walk from Tokushima Station • Parking available #kayuakanean #gototokushima #tokushima #tokushimajapan #visittokushima @akanean_japan

March 2026 🌺 A lovely and elegant guest from Hawaii joined my Nerikiri lesson. She wanted to learn everything from the very basics, including how to prepare the dough, so I guided her step by step with care. It was her first time making wagashi, even though she visits Japan every year🇯🇵 She chose to challenge herself with a mikan design 🍊 She looked a little nervous while peeling it, but did a wonderful job and succeeded beautifully! I’m so delighted too! She told me she would love to come back and learn wagashi every time she visits Japan, which made me so happy 💛 I hope to see you again soon. 🍡 Thank you for coming ❣️ If you’d like to try something special away from the busy city, this is the perfect spot. ankotopia WAGASHI School offers relaxing, hands-on wagashi lessons in a quiet town just outside Tokyo.
