The intelligence we’re building may not be “artificial” at all. Microsoft Chief Scientific Officer Eric Horvitz argues that the term Artificial Intelligence is misleading. Instead, he prefers “Computational Intelligence” — because the same underlying principles that power machine learning systems also apply to biological brains. In other words, human minds and AI systems may operate on the same fundamental computational rules. This changes the way we think about the AI revolution. We’re not necessarily creating a digital imitation of intelligence. We may be scaling the same processes that already exist in nature, transferring them from biological neurons to silicon chips. Horvitz also highlights something deeper. As humans increasingly work with AI, our decisions, values, and ways of thinking could gradually be shaped by the systems we interact with. The relationship between humans and machines becomes a feedback loop. At the same time, advances in AI are expected to unlock major breakthroughs in biology, medicine, and healthcare within the next 10–15 years. If intelligence is truly universal — not artificial — the boundary between human cognition and machine computation may be far thinner than we once believed. And that raises a difficult question: Are we using the intelligence we created… or are we slowly evolving alongside it?

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt is backing FutureHouse, a nonprofit building AI systems to accelerate scientific discovery. Their newly launched platform features four specialized AI agents that surpass PhD researchers in analyzing scientific literature. The system identifies disease causes and potential treatments by processing thousands of research papers in minutes instead of weeks. In demonstrations, researchers used the platform to quickly discover potential drug targets for PCOS. With transparent reasoning processes and API access for integration into existing research workflows, FutureHouse aims to fundamentally transform how scientific breakthroughs happen, potentially saving millions of lives through accelerated medical discoveries. #trendingreels #ai #medical #research #science

Microsoft just stored 4.8 terabytes of data in a piece of glass that lasts ten thousand years without power Meet Richard Black He directs Project Silica at Microsoft Research where his team uses femtosecond lasers that fire pulses lasting one quadrillionth of a second to carve three hundred and one layers of microscopic voxels into ordinary borosilicate glass the same material in your Pyrex dishes and oven door Each voxel is a three-dimensional data point stacked like floors in a building Heres how it works A single laser pulse changes the way light moves through glass at that exact spot To read it back an automated microscope scans every layer while machine learning algorithms decode the patterns and reconstruct files using error correction Heres where it gets insane Cloud data centers burn massive energy keeping magnetic tape alive by constantly copying degrading data every ten years Scientists heated the glass to five hundred degrees Celsius to simulate ten thousand years of aging and it passed every test showing zero data loss at room temperature Microsoft is targeting cloud providers national archives and media companies as their customers They already stored the original Superman movie and partnered with the Global Music Vault to archive songs under Arctic ice One piece of kitchen glass could eliminate the cloud storage industrys ten-year tape migration cycle for the next ten thousand years **Hashtags:** #ProjectSilica #Microsoft #GlassStorage #RichardBlack #DataStorage MicrosoftResearch

Microsoft 🤝 UoM We are the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 to give all 65,000 of our students and staff full access to Microsoft 365 Copilot. What does that mean for you? - Smarter study sessions - Future‑ready AI skills employers want - Fair access to powerful tools for everyone - Faster research and bigger ideas We know that sustainability and environmental considerations come together with AI and we are hugely mindful of this, especially as a University with sustainability at its heart. We are working closely with Microsoft to ensure transparency around environmental and wider impacts, and to promote best practice in responsible and sustainable AI adoption. Microsoft’s long-standing commitments to sustainability were an important consideration for us in partnering with them.  We’re working with @manchester_su, our trade unions and staff networks as we roll this out by summer - expect more news soon! #universityofmanchester #ai #innovation

What if your data could survive for 10,000 years? 🤯 Microsoft is working on something called Project Silica — a revolutionary storage technology that writes data inside quartz glass using ultra-fast femtosecond lasers. Instead of magnetic disks or SSDs that fail after a few years, this glass can preserve information for thousands of years. Tiny microscopic structures called voxels are written deep inside the glass, storing data across multiple layers. The result? A storage medium that is resistant to heat, water, scratches, and electromagnetic damage. Microsoft already tested it by storing the entire 1978 Superman movie on a small piece of glass. Imagine future data centers filled not with hard drives… but with libraries of glass preserving humanity’s knowledge for millennia. The future of data storage might not be in the cloud. It might be sealed in glass. OpenAI just dropped a game-changer for researchers. 🔬✨ Meet Prism — a free AI-powered word processor built on GPT-5.2 that evaluates claims, revises scientific texts, and searches previous research in seconds. Scientists can now format papers with LaTeX, create diagrams, and get highly relevant answers thanks to smarter context management. Kevin Weil says 2026 will be for AI and science what 2025 was for software engineering. The future of scientific discovery just got faster. 🚀 Could this be the tool that revolutionizes how research gets done?
