Composting is the natural process of breaking down food scraps into nutrient-rich, soil-like material that feeds plants.
Kitchen composters speed this up using heat, air, and grinding, with zero waste and zero smell.
In the spring and summer, I usually compost outside. But in the winter, I ran into a very real problem - food scraps sitting in a bucket, starting to decay before I could get them to the garden.
So my lovely mother gifted me a kitchen composter for Christmas and learned there is an easier way to compost year-round.
If you’re new to composting, it’s simply the breakdown of organic materials - most of what we normally throw away (excluding meat byproducts) can be composted.
Instead of ending up in the trash, those scraps are transformed into something your plants can actually use as fertilizer.
Once I learned that, I genuinely couldn’t throw food scraps away anymore. I’m absolutely the person who will save a banana peel if I come over your house, but that’s my small contribution to taking better care of the earth 🌎
