GÜLÜMSEYEN MERYEM! GÜMÜŞLER MANASTIRI- NİĞDE 📌 Restorasyon facialarının sıkça gündeme geldiği bugünlerde, bir dönem “Gülen Meryem Ana” olarak ün kazanan bir freskten söz etmek istiyorum. Bu fresk, Niğde ilimizin Gümüşler kasabasında büyük bir tüf kaya kitlesinin içine oyularak yapılmış bir kaya manastır kilisesi’ndedir. MS 8. ve MS 12. yüzyılları arasında yapıldığı düşünülen bu manastır; yapısı ve freskleri itibariyle günümüze olabildiğince iyi durumda ulaşabilmiş bir yapılar topluluğudur. 📌 Manastırın en önemli yapısı, kuzey tarafındaki kilise binasıdır. Kilisede bulunan tüm freskler 1964-65 yıllarında İngiliz arkeolog Michael Gough tarafından restore edilmiştir. Öncesinde ise sanat tarihçi ve arkeologlar durum tespiti için fresklerin fotoğraflarını çekip, raporlarını yazmışlar, restorasyon ise bu raporlamanın sonrasında yapılmıştır. 📌 Kilisede apsisin kuzey bölümünde öyle bir fresk var ki, freskteki Meryem Ana’nın gülüp gülmediği bir dönem tartışma konusu olmuş, dünyadaki tek gülen Meryem olarak lanse edilmiştir. Halbuki Hristiyanlık ve Sanat Tarihi ikonografisinde gülen Meryem figürü yoktur. Meryem; oğlu tüm insanların affı için çarmıha gerilmiş acılı bir annedir ve elbette ki gülümseyerek resmedilmemiştir. Bu, olsa olsa bir restorasyon hatasıdır. 📌 Bir dönem , Kültür Bakanlığı gülen Meryem figürünün Türkiye’nin tanıtım videosunda kullanılacağını söylediğinde, uzmanlar devreye girmiş ve gerçek Meryem figürünün gülümsemediğini, aksine üzgün durduğunu belgelerle sunmuşlardır. Manastır, Süryani Kadim Cemaati’nin ünlü ve büyük yapıtlarından biridir. Manastırın temelleri Mor Şmuel ile Mor Şemun tarafından 397 yılında atılmış ve yapı kısa sürede tamamlanmıştır. Değişik tarihlerde içine ve dışına ekler yapılmıştır. 615 ve 1049’da Metropolitlik Merkezi olan manastırda, Kral Arcadius (395-408) zamanında Mor Şemun tarafından barınma ve dua yerleri yapılmıştır.
