WIThe Japanese macaque, often called the snow monkey, is a primate native to Japan and is remarkable for living farther north than any other monkey species. They thrive in regions with heavy snowfall and freezing winters, adapting to the cold by growing thick fur and huddling together for warmth. One of their most famous behaviours is soaking in natural hot springs, especially in areas like Jigokudani, to stay comfortable during harsh winters. Highly social animals, they live in groups with complex hierarchies, and communication through facial expressions and vocalisations plays a big role in their daily lives.
