There, amid constant care, bottle feedings, and veterinary supervision, something unexpected happened. Punch clung to a stuffed animal as if it were his last certainty. An orangutan-shaped doll became his refuge, and his silent embrace began to go viral around the world. The viral images show Punch sleeping with the stuffed animal pressed against his chest, walking with it around his enclosure, reaching for it when something frightens him. A simple gesture that has touched the hearts of thousands. 193K Caretakers explain that these objects function as "comfort objects," just as human babies are soothed by a blanket or a toy. A six-month-old macaque named Punch has become an internet star after videos showed him clinging to a stuffed orangutan for comfort at Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan 🐒❤️ Punch was born in July 2025 but was abandoned by his mother shortly after birth. Zookeepers stepped in to hand-raise him and have since been closely monitoring his growth while gradually introducing him to other macaques. Because infant monkeys typically cling to their mothers from birth, caretakers offered Punch blankets and stuffed toys to ease his anxiety. He chose the plush orangutan 🧸.
