Two ways to propagate monstera deliciosa 🌱 One of my rescue monsteras was looking a little bit leggy so I thought it was time to propagate! Here are two ways you can propagate monstera deliciosa 💚 The first one is to cut beneath a node and propagate in water. I like to use filtered water and add a little honey, this reduces the risk of the cutting rotting and boosts growth! I took a cutting with two leaves but one is just fine, as long as it has a node. The second way is to propagate from a monstera stem cutting. For this you need stem pieces with a node including aerial root and axillary bud. Snip these into pieces and pop them aerial root down into sphagnum moss. Cover loosely and keep moist, you should see growth in around 3-4 weeks but it can take longer! #houseplants #houseplantaddict #propagation #monstera #houseplantclub

One year ago today… Still shaking my head—and my husband’s still confused about why I chopped up our monstera like that. But don’t worry, folks, we’re still happily married! Here’s what went down: I took that long, dramatic vine, cut the aerial roots, and made a clean cut just after a leaf node. Let it callous for 24 hours, then into water it went. Stay tuned—because now it’s time for the update! #MonsteraPropagation #LeafNodeCutting #AerialRoots #PlantPropagation #HouseplantJourney Monstera propagation, plant propagation, aerial root cutting, monstera leaf node, water propagation

Should you cut aerial roots on Monstera deliciosa? 🌿 Aerial roots are a normal and healthy part of Monstera deliciosa growth. They help the plant climb and absorb moisture in its natural environment. Cutting aerial roots on Monstera deliciosa is not dangerous if done properly. The plant will continue to grow new leaves and aerial roots even after cutting. Use clean scissors and cut close to the stem to avoid damage. If you use a moss pole or support, guiding aerial roots into it helps the plant grow stronger and more stable. If you don’t like the look, trimming them is mostly an aesthetic choice. I took a chance and I propagated a highly variegated top cut of my Monstera Albo. 🪴 Comment “LINK” if you want details/discount on the trellis or the pot! 🪴 I wasn’t sure if the cutting would root with it being so variegated. But it DID! And this is that top cut. You can see the petiole with a missing leaf to the left. That leaf tried to emerge while it was rooting and it didn’t make it (to be expected). But the plant is still doing fine! This timelapse was from October. The leaf in this video has already turned brown and I cut it off but there are two more leaves after this with a little more green and they are okay 🙂. It’s been interesting to watch exactly how the leaves brown. They always start with the part of the leaf furthest from any green. The variegated parts don’t produce energy so they have trouble opening and closing their stomata (they rely on energy from the green parts) so naturally the parts furthest from any green are the first to go. The actual reason they brown is due to edema (which you can observe in this and my other timelapses if you look carefully) and they get edema easily because they can’t open their stomata in time to let out excess water after I water the plant. I have been experimenting with smaller amounts of water more frequently to maintain more consistent moisture to prevent the stomata from closing and therefor preventing edema (stomata are a little more complicated than that but google will do a better job than I will so I’ll keep it simple here). Experiment is inconclusive yet because I’m struggling to keep up with plant care in general right now 😆. I didn’t even mean to go into that much detail in this caption but the words just kept flowing so I went with it…… K bye 🙃 #monsteraalbo #planttimelapse #monstera #houseplants

Monstera Deliciosa Propagation!!! The number one rule for propagating Monsteras is that you always need a stem cutting with a node and an aerial root. Second - Place cutting in a jar of water and it’s better to change the water once a week. Third- Place your Jar in a sunny and bright area. Fourth- When there is a nice cluster of roots that are filling up your jar, it’s ready to be planted in soil. #ichreeladay #ichreeladaychallenge #ichreeladaychallengeday17 #monsteradeliciosa #monsteradeliciosapropagation #monsterapropagation #monsteramonday #propagation #miraclegro #planterina #houseplantclub#plantmom#houseplantcommunity

The aerial roots can be a bit spooky 👻 🪴 Monstera Albo - did you know you don’t need a moss pole? The aerial roots can attach all by themselves to a plain piece of wood as long as they have good contact. They also attach to my walls when they come into contact too 😑 so I cut them away from the wall (you can see a few disappear for that reason in the video if you look closely 😆). #monsteraalbo #planttimelapse #monsteramondays

7 tips I wish I knew 👇🏻👇🏻 1️⃣ Not enough light Monsteras are called bright indirect plants for a reason. Dark corners = slow sad growth. 2️⃣ Overwatering Overwatering is not using too much water. It’s watering too frequently and not letting the roots dry out fully. 3️⃣ No support pole These are climbing plants. No pole = floppy weird growth. They love to climb 4️⃣ Inconsistent watering Bone dry → soaking wet → bone dry again stresses the plant. 5️⃣ Nutrient deficiency Big leaves need food. Water alone isn’t enough. 6️⃣ Low humidity / no airflow Stale air = weak growth and pests love it. Try an make them feel at home like in nature! 7️⃣ Bad soil Dense potting soil suffocates the roots. Monsteras want chunky, airy mixes. The thicker the better 🤗 Fix these and your Monstera will actually start looking like the ones you see online lol. Save this so you don’t forget 🌿 🪴Comment the word “help” and I’ll send you all my tools!! #plants #Monstera #RarePlants #PlantTips #PlantCare

This monstera Thai constellation would grow up a plank! I’m using a moss pole to hopefully tame the aerial roots. So far it has been working, but the last couple growth points have turned away from the pole.having it on a moss pole would make chopping and propagating easier, but I can’t imagine cutting him quite yet. There is still room to grow! #monsterathaiconstellation #monsterathai
