When Ben first joined the NVQ Level 3 in Heritage Masonry, he spoke about exploring Welsh vernacular buildings at St Fagans National Museum of History and developing his skills in banker masonry through hands-on learning and live projects.

Now, he’s completed the qualification.

DRRestoring a Local Icon. 🏰
Neil Dawson from @comriejoinery has been tasked with clearing out the rubble and historic remnants of our tower with the next step being using timber to secure the top hatch.
Because this historic site is also home to protected bats, work on the tower ceased mid-March to ensure noise and disturbance wouldn't affect the wildlife.

WIBig things are happening at Bruce’s Shed.
This building has been part of the Wild Mountains story for decades, and thanks to a recent restoration grant we’ve begun the huge job of strengthening and retrofitting it so it can continue supporting the work happening here for years to come.
The first step? Digging out the old floor and preparing the foundations for a new concrete slab.
It’s a massive job and every load of soil moved so far has been done by an incredible crew of volunteers.
We’re documenting this process to capture the continued history of this place and because projects like this are only possible through the skills and generosity of community.
As the next phase begins, we’re looking for skilled volunteers (carpenters, tradies and practical problem solvers) who would like to lend a hand.
And if you’d like to support the restoration of Bruce’s Shed, donations to Wild Mountains help us continue this work and go beyond what the grant alone can cover.
