MPFósseis de crustáceos com mais de 120 milhões de anos retornaram ao Brasil. O material, extraído da Chapada do Araripe (CE), havia sido levado na década de 90 à Argentina por uma pesquisadora.
Os fósseis são da espécie Martinsestheria codoensis, um crustáceo muito pequeno, e são encontrados apenas na região do Araripe. As peças têm grande valor científico, pois serviram de base para os primeiros estudos sobre essa espécie brasileira. Elas serão levadas para o Museu de Paleontologia Plácido Cidade Nuvens (Urca), onde servirão para pesquisas científicas e visitação do público.
Desde 2022, o MPF já conseguiu, mediante cooperação internacional, repatriar mais de mil fósseis extraídos e levados de forma irregular para outros países. Todo fóssil encontrado em território brasileiro pertence à União (ao Estado brasileiro) e é considerado patrimônio nacional.
