Some dogs are born with big feelings about barking. The question is what you do with it. Annie is a five‑month‑old German Shepherd in our camp program to learn obedience, and for her that also includes personal protection work. In this little session with Baldric, you can see her discovering that the love for barking is already inside her. With permission, she’s allowed to enjoy using that voice instead of pretending it isn’t there. Our personal protection dogs are always pets first and protectors second. Annie still gets to be a sweet, goofy puppy, learn her manners, and be part of her family’s everyday life. She just also gets to learn that there are moments where using her voice at the right time, with the right person, is a good job. In this clip she’s getting praised for her barking and effort, building that confidence and drive we’ll shape and clean up as she grows. Later on, we’ll put all the on and off switches in place. Right now, this is the beginning of her understanding that she and her person can do big, brave things together. If you’re watching this and thinking, “I’d like a dog who can be my pet and my protector,” that’s something we can talk about in our programs here in Springfield. We only start 15 new dogs each month at our Springfield facility, and spots go fast. Book a quick 10‑minute fit call this week and we’ll see if your dog and your goals are a good match for what we offer: https://tinyurl.com/yfxd2xyj #SpringfieldMO #LoveSpringfield #SGF #417dogs #417land #417local #OzarkLife #SpringfieldDogs #DogTrainingEliteSpringfield #DogTraining #RealWorldTraining #CalmConfidentDog #FamilyDog #DogTrainerLife #DogTrainingCamp #DayTraining #DogDayCamp #PersonalProtectionDog #ProtectionTraining #GermanShepherd

Most people think the problem is the barking and lunging. It’s not. The problem starts when your dog locks onto something. They stop listening, body goes stiff. That is the moment you need to step in. If you wait until the reaction… you are already too late. Shera had not been out to a park in a long time. This was her first real exposure again. New environment. New triggers. And you can see exactly where it builds. This is what we work on. Not just stopping the reaction. But teaching the dog how to handle this moment before it explodes. If your dog is doing this and you are not sure how to handle it, reach out. ... #reactivedog #reactivedogtraining #dogreactivity #reactivedogs #dogtraininghelp

The intense barking and biting are intentionally triggered through visual stimuli and precise movements, such as the use of objects and gestures, to activate the dog’s instinct in a controlled way. This is part of working and protection dog training. This type of exercise is not done with just any dog, nor at any stage. 👉🏻 It requires: • a solid obedience foundation • prior emotional control • accurate body language reading from the handler • precise timing • and a properly prepared environment The goal here is not to “make the dog aggressive.” It’s to teach the dog to switch on and off on command, understand boundaries, and respond clearly to human guidance. Without a foundation, this kind of stimulation becomes a problem. With criteria and professional supervision, it becomes a working tool. Advanced training is not a show. It’s technique, responsibility, and process. 🐾

Don’t let the calm fool you. What you’re seeing in this video took 20 minutes to get to. It started with full hysteria — both of them losing it completely, barking loud enough for the whole neighborhood to hear. Anyone who has a reactive dog knows that feeling when you just want to get out of there and make it stop. But we had a goal. One month to get these two to the point where other dogs simply don’t trigger them anymore. So instead of leaving we kept walking. Back and forth, right past those barking dogs. Correcting a 35kg dog mid-lunge is hard and not nearly as effective as catching them the moment they decide to go. If you look closely at their body language you can see exactly when they’re about to go — the second they lock in and start to load up for the jump — and that’s when the correction happens. Only when we got a couple of clean passes did we move on. For them that’s a huge win. That’s one brick. This is how it gets built. One brick at a time until they can walk past any trigger on a loose leash without a second thought. I know it can feel like it’s never going to change. We’ve been through this with all three of our Staffies and I know exactly how this road ends. The result is coming and it’s going to be solid. Don’t miss this one becoming something. If you’re at the beginning of this road and want to know where to start — the first steps are in Easy Leash Formula in bio.

Mylo hung out here last night for a few hours. Demand barking in dogs can annoy guardians. Often demand barking gets inadvertently reinforced. However, dogs naturally vocalize using lower volumes. So I captured that and delivered Mylo’s super-high value reinforcement (liver). With “bark,” he got kibble. But *only* if it was cued. When he demand barked, he got nothing. No response at all from me. Mylo is smart and realized if I cued “Whisper,” responding to the cue he would earn liver. When I said “Bark” and he did it was lower pay (kibble). Notice that Mylo wasn’t barking in response to my Chihuahuas barking upstairs. Such a good dog! #unbalanceddogtrainer #rewardbaseddogtraining #dogtricks #desidog #desidogsofinstagram

It’s starting to click!💡 Mischief and I hit another milestone today! 🥳✨ The end goal is barking towards the handler which is the highest form of engagement. People spend years building a relationship with a dog, so I’m loving all the progress we are making together 🥰 Step 1 was teaching her to bark which took 3 weeks. Frustrating for both of us iykyk 😂 Now that she is barking on command I’m slowly focusing her attention towards barking at me and bringing the ball to my hand. Long way to go and it’s not flashy, but progress is progress 🙌✨ #germanshepherd #gsd #igp #workingdog #dogtraining

Most owners try to fix the reaction. But the real work happens before the reaction. If your dog is already barking and lunging, their brain is overwhelmed — they can’t learn in that moment. Training starts at a distance where your dog can stay calm and still pay attention to you. That’s where confidence is built. If this sounds like your dog, send me a message and tell me what they react to most.

This is the end of session TWO with this 3 year old GSD—and the progress speaks for itself. Session one, he wouldn’t even let me approach him. High reactivity, going after the other dogs in the home, and zero ability to stay neutral around distractions. Fast forward to today: ✔️ No longer going after the dogs he lives with ✔️ Walking past barking dogs without reacting ✔️ Allowing handling and engagement He did attempt to chase a cat today—but we addressed it immediately and moved on. That’s part of the process. The big takeaway here ⬇️ The owners had “tried” a prong collar before and said it didn’t work. Here’s the truth… It’s not the tool—it’s how you use it. Once we introduced the correct prong collar AND showed them how to properly communicate with it, everything started to click. This dog is incredibly smart. He just needed clear, consistent guidance. Too many people buy cheap tools or use them incorrectly, and not only does it fail—it can actually make behaviors worse. A tool will NEVER train your dog for you. Skill, timing, and understanding always come first. Train the dog. Learn the tools. Apply them correctly. Jake is one smart pup. I’m excited about what we will be able to do with this dog over the next few sessions.
