How to Multitrack Record on DiGiCo There are so many different ways to get audio from your Console to your Computer to Record. In this video I show it being done using the waves port, but you could use a Dante card, MGB, UB MADI, Analog to Interface, etc. There are also many ways you can route out your audio but the simplest and what I consider to be the best for most situations is to use the copy audio page to route. What this does is route (bi-directional) from inputs to outputs, picking off after the preamp but before any processing. This is perfect for mixing later or for using the tracks for a virtual soundcheck Let me know if you have any questions #livesound #audioengineering #soundboard

the things ↓ we’re often told how to make our compositions sound better by layering more instruments and making sure we have interesting harmony - but when I do this I constantly find myself frustrated over the same boring music so… i learned how to make genuinely interesting and captivating orchestrations, mirroring that huge sound from hollywood blockbusters here are some tips on how I do it every time, and how you can do the same! 1) strings shouldn’t be playing the same thing 🎻 the usual five-instrument layout for strings is not intended for the same line to be played over and over again. what creates real intrigue and emotion is when they’re all played in contrasting fashion, weaving different melodic ideas together. when you have them doing that, they’ll sound like a constantly evolving section, moving independently while coming together as one in the final mix 2. brass won’t sound good until you unsolo it. 🎺 i’ve spent years soloing my brass and becoming frustrated at how tinny and gross it sounds just to find that it’s true purpose is to sit in with the rest of the orchestra. sure, you can do lovely solo brass pieces but when writing for a movie score sound, it just won’t work at these high velocities. let them play with the rest of the orchestra - if the final mix isn’t going to be solo brass, don’t write for them like it. 3. woodwinds are your glue 🪈 woodwinds are CONSTANTLY left out of pieces for being ‘boring’ or ‘lacking power’, but when doubled with melody and harmony from the rest of the orchestra, they can finalise an unfinished sounding piece. sometimes, all a violin line needs is a flute to add some texture - or a trombone’s lacking some warmth that a clarinet can fill. these instruments shouldn’t just be shunned - they should be embraced as the often saving grace to many pieces that sound empty! comment ORCHESTRA to get my free guide on orchestration, which goes into FAR more depth than this post! 🎼 happy composing :)

One of the questions I get asked the most is which string libraries I use – and I totally get why. Creating a realistic string mockup is a real challenge: it takes months, even years, to truly master it and achieve convincing results. This is the combo of libraries I currently use together, because when combined they always give me a very cinematic sound. Of course, each of these libraries has its pros and cons, and that’s exactly why blending them helps balance everything out. For example, Cinematic Studio Strings is extremely useful for detail and its beautiful legato, while Benjamin Wallfisch Strings gives you that sense of size and wide, cinematic sound. What I always suggest is to keep experimenting. This is my current string palette – it wasn’t the same years ago, and it will probably keep evolving over time. Try, experiment, study. There’s no other way. Let me know in the comments which ones you’re using! 🎻✨ #filmscoring #filmcomposer #soundtrack #epicmusic #producerlifestyle #filmmusic
