Saying carrots aren’t real food because of selective breeding is like saying modern medicine isn’t real because Paleolithic humans didn’t have antibiotics. Selective breeding has allowed us to develop safer, tastier, and more nutritious foods over thousands of years. Yes, wild carrots (like Queen Anne’s lace) once existed, but this fact only proves why selective breeding is NECESSARY—it enhances their safety, taste, and nutrient density for human consumption. PMID’s: 31231527, 37770615 2️⃣ Carrots are a nutritious, whole food. This☝️nonsensical video has millions of views, yet 90% of Americans aren’t eating enough vegetables—and chronic disease risk continues to rise. Carrots are loaded with fiber, vitamin A, antioxidants, and beta-carotene, which support heart health, immunity, vision, and lowering inflammation. PMID: 31546950 Imagine if more people knew the truth about carrots instead of falling for baseless, viral fear-mongering? Maybe more of us would find reasons to eat MORE OF THEM…. 3️⃣ Carrots are NOT Plan B. Let’s break it down: 1. “Diet Pepsi contains formaldehyde” Aspartame—the primary non-nutritive sweetener in Diet Pepsi—breaks down into amino acids + a small amount of methanol, which can be converted to formaldehyde in tiny amounts that are rapidly processed by the body. But whether you drink diet soda or not: • Your body produces far more formaldehyde every day as part of normal metabolism •You’re already exposed to methanol from nutrient-dense foods like fruit, vegetables, and coffee (PMID: 27753624, 12180494) …and there’s no evidence that it “preserves your fat.” 2. “Anything diet that’s sweet will make you produce insulin” Nope. Sweet taste alone isn’t metabolically equivalent to something that actually raises your blood sugar. Non-nutritive sweeteners: ➡️ Do not raise blood sugar like sugar does ➡️ Do not consistently increase insulin in a meaningful or sustained way In fact, a recent systematic review found no acute metabolic or endocrine effects—similar to water (PMID: 36839408). They also do not increase risk of type 2 diabetes (PMID: 31253876) or raise blood sugar in people with diabetes (PMID: 24934070). 3. “My ex lost 20 lbs just cutting Diet Pepsi” Cool story. Maybe it’s true. But weight change reflects patterns over time, not eliminating one calorie-free drink. Also, anecdotes aren’t evidence. So… there’s that. 4. “The more diet soda you drink, the fatter you get” When we look at randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses, we see the opposite: • Drinking diet soda in a weight-loss program led to more weight loss than water (PMID: 26708700) • Replacing sugary soda with diet soda can support weight loss and improved cardiometabolic health (PMID: 35285920) Bottom line: Drink Diet Pepsi if you want. Don’t if you don’t. It’s not making you fat. And no, I’m NOT saying to drink your weight in it. We’re still using common sense here. Questions?
