HELand seizure and displacement are components of gen0cide, regardless of the continent. The recent decision by the Ninth Circuit to hand Oak Flat to a foreign mining company- Resolution Copper-is hardly surprising.
It was green lit by then-Senator John McCain, who in 2014 snuck a mandate for the land transfer into a defense bill; for 12 years, indigenous groups and conservationists stalled it. But no more. After the 9th Circuit decision, Forest Service wasted no time, handing the deed to Oak Flat’s 2,422 acres of land to Resolution Copper. Activists are reviewing additional options.

KIMullin is enrolled Cherokee Nation citizen and the first tribal member in the Senate in nearly a century. He sits on the Senate Indian Affairs Committee and often frames Native issues as non‑partisan—pushing for tribal autonomy, working with Indigenous leaders on federal policy, and saying Indian Country deserves a federal‑obligation focus. Native groups have recognized him for that work, and he’s talked about bringing his Cherokee background into decisions at DHS. 😆 sure, 👍🏾!
At the same time, his record has sparked criticism. He’s faced backlash for calling the Trail of Tears a “volunteer walk,” for drafting legislation that would undercut the United Keetoowah Band’s sovereignty, and for votes that some Cherokee citizens felt harmed tribal interests. So his impact is mixed: historic representation and committee advocacy, but also controversial moves that many in Indian Country question.
I'm one of the trafficked kids from the 70s, so they destroyed our paperwork & origin info a long time ago to sell us, but... I was able to connect to my last bio relative before she crossed over & she told me our Cherokee was from the Carolinas (East Band).
The USA foster & adoption services DESTROYRD many of our existence through time. Generations. Truth as the stolen. Many of us can't provide paperwork, rarely meet anyone of biological family because how the govt did us.
So, yes... he's Cherokee, but trust... that doesn't make you Native. Especially when you fight for the WYT MANS WAYS & WILLING TO REBUKE YOUR ORIGINAL LINE.
This is EXACTLY WHY... proof why we say
DECOLONIZE YOUR MINDS.
