ACLet's talk about some piercings that might look cool but are seriously risky: frog eyes, snake eyes, and stingray piercings. If a piercer offers to do any of these, it's a huge red flag and honestly shows they don't care about your longterm health.
Horizontal tongue piercings are particularly dangerous because they go through multiple muscles of your tongue. Your tongue isn't just one big muscle, it has several muscles that move independently. Piercing through them can restrict the natural movement of your tongue, which may lead to speech impediments.
They are incredibly prone to migration and rejection, and can easily damage the delicate blood vessels and nerves in your tongue, leading to complications like excessive bleeding, hematomas, and potential nerve damage.
On top of that, the jewellery sits in constant contact with your teeth and gums, significantly increasing the risk of gum recession and severe tooth damage over time.
Any professional, ethical piercer knows these piercings are anatomically unsafe and carry unacceptable risks. If your piercer refuses to do these, it's a sign that they prioritize your safety and health over trends or simply making a sale. If someone is willing to perform these, they're either uneducated, inexperienced, or just plain negligent. Your health isn't worth gambling on a piercing that's almost guaranteed to cause problems. 💜
