Call it old or traditional courses! And don't panic if you're doing these courses I have mentioned tips to make the most of it. 1. BCA - is not the worst but an old degree and employers and universities value a Bachelor of Computer Science with a specialisation then a BCA. But it also depends on where you're doing it from. 2. Old BCOM degree - There are two types of BCOM one with the old curriculum and one with an updated curriculum. Make sure you're not opting for the old one. Some of the Unis that offer new curricula are Ahmedabad Uni, Christ Uni, OP Jindal and more. 3. General Bachelor of Arts - Doesn’t hold much value and also doesn't give good jobs with decent pay it's better to do BA with interdisciplinary studies that allow you to explore different subjects. 4. BSc - BSc Honours is valued more than just a plain BSc and if you do a major in BSc (Hons) then it holds much value. 5. General MBA from Local Colleges or non reputed - This is absolutely not worth it. It's better to complete a Bachelor and get some experience and then opt for an MBA from a decent college. This way you will also understand the curriculum of an MBA. Now for those who are already doing this, this is how you can make the most of it. • Do Online Courses that are updated and advanced (check the ratings and reviews of the courses on Online Platforms like Coursera and Udemy) • Look for Internships to develop practical skills • Doing Part-Time Jobs to learn new skills and get new-age experience Need Part 2? 1. At 35, I had already spent over a decade in academia, only to realize that I didn’t want to be a professor for the rest of my life. Leaving that path after so many years felt like ‘wasting’ my degree, but now I see it as a pivot, not a failure. 2. I struggled with imposter syndrome after transitioning from academia to UX research. For the longest time, I felt like I was “faking it” because I didn’t have a formal background in UX. Turns out, many career changers feel this way—but that doesn’t make our skills any less valuable. 3. I often feel like I’m doing too much—a full-time job, a community, content creation, and being a mom of two. But the truth is, I love what I do, and I’ve learned to own my ambition instead of apologizing for it. 4. I don’t love networking. Cold messaging people on LinkedIn, setting up coffee chats—it all felt unnatural at first. But I kept pushing myself to do it because I knew building relationships is the real key to career growth. And now? I genuinely enjoy helping others navigate their own career transitions. 5. I’ve been told I’m “too diligent” or that I “do too much”—but what people call ‘diligence’ is just survival. When you’re a working mom building a career and a business, you don’t have the luxury of taking things slow. 6. I overthink. Every. Little. Thing. Whether it’s writing an Instagram caption or making a business decision, I’ll analyze it from every possible angle before finally pressing ‘post.’ I’ve learned that action beats perfection. 7. I wasn’t always confident speaking English. Even though I’ve lived in the U.S. for years, I still catch myself questioning my grammar or pronunciation. But I remind myself that fluency is about communication, not perfection. 8. I used to think sharing struggles online was a sign of weakness. Now, I know that honesty is what actually connects us. I don’t have everything figured out, but I’m okay with that—because who really does?

I come from a Pharm.D background. I knew I didn’t want to be in hospitals, but I had no clue how to break into a completely different field — especially one like data. What I did know? I had an analytical mindset. I liked solving problems. I just needed a roadmap. So I built my skillset around what entry-level roles actually expect: ✅ Excel – Not just data entry. I learned formulas, pivot tables, and how to build dashboards that tell a story. ✅ SQL – I focused on writing clean queries that answer real business questions. Practiced joins, filters, subqueries. ✅ Power BI / Tableau – I built dashboards from free datasets, trying to make them simple and clear — like they were telling me something. ✅ Communication – I used to underestimate this, but explaining data in simple words is a big part of the job. ✅ Problem Solving – googled like crazy. Made small messy projects and kept showing up even when it didn’t “look” perfect. 📥 save this post if you’re building your roadmap to break into analytics. 💬 have questions about switching from non-tech to tech?
