Not much more basic than a 9 patch, but it’s Monday and my brain needs an ease into the week. 😉 This is a great jelly roll block, as you can use 2.5” strips of the accent color and the background color, and then 6.5” squares of the background fabric. It’s also very similar to how you create an Irish chain quilt, which I have a free pattern for you in my shop! (Edited to add: I sewed with 2.25” strips and 5.75” squares to fit my sampler. Here's my finished Betsy Nine Patch in all her glory! I've loved seeing so many people join in with their own versions. Mine was made as a free community sewalong to enjoy my much loved and hoarded Betsy collection. Each nine patch uses a different Betsy colourway collected over many, many years. There's a free pattern on my blog and strip piecing wasn't used because each block used a different Betsy. I've hand quilted mine with ecru Perle 8 thread in a cross hatch. Handquilting is always a labour of love but always, always, always worth it. If you don't have a huge collection of your own Betsy (and if not you absolutely should!) @duckadillyfabrics have some lovely kits for nine patch quilts which may help you to achieve a similar quilt. #betsyninepatchsewalong #betsyninepatchquilt #sewbequilts #sewalong #quilt #patchwork #handquilted #handquilting #ninepatch #simplequilt

*No quilt blocks were harmed in the making of this video! Not permanently anyway. 🤣 Have you ever made a Disappearing Nine Patch quilt? Super easy - great way to expand your repertoire if you’ve only sewn squares together before. For this block, I sewed 5” blocks together into a Nine Patch and then, as you see in the video, I cut the block in half BOTH WAYS (not shown). Then I took quadrants 1 and 4 and flipped them 180 degrees. Sew the block back together and voilà! Easy nine patch with perfect points every time! 🙌 Steps: Cut nine squares (mine are 2.5") Lay the squares in a 3x3 grid on a lightweight interfacing or preprinted grid interfacing (like @tensisters_handicraft). Iron into place. Fold one row over and sew a 1/4" seam. Fold second row over and sew a 1/4" seam. Snip seams where the corners of the squares meet. This will allow the seams to nest. Press the seams in opposite directions. Fold one column over and sew a 1/4" seam. Fold he second column over and sew a 1/4" seam. Press seams in one direction. Admire those perfectly lined up points!
