PRA case has emerged from NMIMS Indore, where students were organizing a Valentine’s Week event on campus. They had set up small stalls selling flowers and teddies an activity managed by students themselves and also serving as a small fundraiser.
According to students who shared photos and videos, members of Bajrang Dal reportedly entered the campus and objected to the event, saying Valentine’s Day is not part of Hindu culture.
The question is: Is this the right approach?
No private college allows outsiders to disrupt student activities without permission. Disagreement is understandable, but disruption and force are not. When such incidents occur, students who have worked hard feel resentment and resentment creates distance.
We always support such organizations when they raise their voice against forced conversions or illegal activities. But extremism of any kind weakens the larger cause.
Another question arises: Is this happening everywhere, or only where there is political comfort or protection? If something is wrong, it should be opposed everywhere not selectively.
To the police and state administration, this is a request: Temporary detentions for a few hours or days do not solve the issue; they often encourage repetition.
I raise this concern because I do not want Gen Z students to feel alienated from their own culture due to forceful actions. Setting up a stall does not mean someone is abandoning their religion it simply means they are participating in a social activity.
Dialogue strengthens society.
Force divides it.
