The first known use of the thumbs-up emoji 👍 dates back to ancient Rome, where spectators raised their thumbs to spare a gladiator’s life! 🏛️✨ A downward thumb meant the opposite. Over centuries the gesture flipped meanings, but it survived as our universal “awesome” sign. History’s coolest hand signal glow-up! 😄🌟 Please DM for credit or removal. 🎬 Highlights: The mime 2021 (short film) Late at night, a lone commuter waits on an empty train-platform, quietly checking their schedule. Suddenly, a silent figure emerges: a mime in full white-face makeup, perfectly still — until he isn’t. The mime approaches, offering friendly pantomimes… then the tone shifts. What seemed playful becomes menacing. The commuter realizes the mime is no ordinary performer: he toys with space, sound, and visibility, turning the station into a trap. With each gesture the mime makes, the world around the commuter warps — an invisible wall here, an unseen force there. In a final confrontation, the commuter must decide whether to flee or face the strange, deadly language of the mime. Follow for more. Why do Filipinos point with their lips? 🤔 Public historian @xiao.chua explains that this unique gesture is rooted in Filipino culture—a way of life passed down from generation to generation, shaped by customary beliefs and practices. Instead of using the hands, Filipinos have long used their lips to point, a subtle gesture that remains a part of our daily interactions today. Thank you, @mr_phlindsay_sped for this amazing history lesson on the meaning of 6-7! Kids have always been easily influenced by what’s perceived as popular around them. In the digital world, this vulnerability is exploited by algorithms that feed them content from so-called influencers. The 6-7 phenomenon shows us how something so ridiculous can spread like wildfire when supercharged by algorithms. It also shows us how more horrible content, like deadly challenges, or shoving pencils in Chromebooks to make them burn, also spreads. The #1 way to decrease the influence of this content and the algorithms over our kids is to delay entry: #delayistheway! This doesn’t stop it entirely, since other kids have access, but as we tell parents, “own what you can control.” Also, it’s nice to have something kinda innocent like this. The best way to get them to stop saying it is to join them 🤣 Parenting with you! Chris PS. Yesterday, I took my son and 7 friends bowling. All middle school. He bowled a 67 in the first game and it was pandemonium 😆
