QOTD: handwritten or digital notes?
I get asked all the time for tips on how to make your notes aesthetic so in this post I’ve shared the tips that helped me when I started trying to make my notes look prettier! Of course, you absolutely do not need to write pretty notes if that is not helpful for you! However, I know that lots of people want to start but just don’t know how. I hope these tips will show you the quick and easy things you can do to make your notes more ‘aesthetic’!
[🗄️] Organise your notes
-> plan before starting your notes
-> use sun-headings and dividers to separate sections
-> box off important information
[🌈] Use a nice colour scheme
-> try not to use too many colours
-> consider different types of colour schemes
-> check out my profile for posts with loads of ideas for colour combos!
[💫] Decorations
-> use stickers if you aren’t the best at drawing
-> add small doodles or diagrams
-> washi tape is a great way to add patterns and colour to your notes
-> add shadows to texts and boxes to create a 3D effect
[🖋️] Stationery
-> make sure to use a good quality writing pen
-> use highlighters to add colour and to make key information stand out (my personal favourites are @zebrapen_uk mildliners!)
-> use colour pens for key words
[💯] Practice makes perfect
-> over time you will develop your own style, discover what you like and also get better at different elements

QOTD: typed or handwritten notes?
I get comments *constantly* saying that notetaking is a waste of time and I could not disagree more! Personally, notetaking is probably the best study method for me to really memorise information and make it stick in my head! Here’s the reasons why:
[✨] If you are handwriting the information, you are connecting the material to a physical action which helps to cement information in your brains.
[✨] By using your own words, you are testing your understanding of the topic.
[✨] If you condense a whole lecture into one page of notes (as I did for the notes shown in this reel), you are practicing crucial summarising skills and making super helpful revision resources.
[✨] If you are someone who struggles to remain focused on a task when trying to learn material, taking the time to write ‘pretty’ notes might help you out by forcing you to slow down and really absorb what you are writing down (this has been a game changer for me!)
[✨] Adding colour and decoration makes it easier to recall and picture in your mind during an exam (especially if you colour code)
ACTIVE notetaking is 100% NOT a waste of time! It is actually an incredibly useful and effective study method - it’s probably the easiest one out there to do!
The thing that *is* a waste of time and won’t help you out is PASSIVE notetaking - when you mindlessly copy word for word from your textbook. I would never encourage anyone to do this and in fact I’ve got an entire guide on my profile with loads of posts on how you can take active and effective notes!
If writing notes doesn’t work for you or help you study, that is absolutely FINE! Do what works for YOU! I personally also use lots of other study methods when revising! But NEVER judge someone for how they study and call it a waste of time because that is helpful to absolutely no one!
