Here’s what OCI cardholders and anyone of Indian origin need to know. Eligible foreign nationals can apply for an OCI Card without completing six months of stay in India, as previously required. Under the new structure, fresh OCI applications submitted abroad will cost a universal fee of $275, payable in the equivalent local currency, while applications filed within India will cost Rs 15,000. Update OCI details within 3 months of passport change. The moment your passport number changes you have 3 months to upload your new passport details on OCI government website. There is a new fine of USD 25 (or equivalent in local currency) for those who do not update their passport details on the OCI portal within three months of issuance of a new passport. Authorities have linked this requirement to upgraded biometric verification systems, which will support faster “e-gate” immigration processing at Indian airports by ensuring real-time matching of passport and OCI data. India has also extended OCI eligibility to Fifth- and sixth-generation Indian Origin Tamils in Sri Lanka, whereas this was previously limited to fourth-generation descendants.
