Yes, there are incredible swimming holes, coastal hikes, kayaking trails and cycling routes in Goa - but the best way to experience them is with small, conscious travel companies. That way, we support the local community, contribute to conservation efforts and learn a thing or three about the natural world around us.
A shoutout to some of my favs:
👉🏼 @terraconscious for educational and experiential mangrove kayaking, dolphin watching and diving, that supports marine conservation and the local fishermen community in Goa (they’re no longer offering daily trips but reach out to curate a private experience).
👉🏼 @thelocalbeat_goa for low-impact private trips that connect enterprising locals and curious travellers, who share a mutual love of Goa’s lesser-known outdoors and cultural traditions.
👉🏼 @cyclingzens to discover Goa’s sleepy villages and islands on two wheels - regular or electric.
👉🏼 @konkanexplorersgoa to kayak, SUP and swim in the Chapora River, and learn about the ancient mangrove forests.
Remember:
⭐️ Always carry your own water bottle, and discourage the use of single-use plastic bottles. Some travel companies still feel immense pressure from travellers to offer them.
⭐️ Refrain from geotagging pristine spots on Instagram, Google Maps or other social media. Unfortunately we live in times where that’s the only way they might remain pristine.
⭐️ Leave places better than you found them. Carry back your own trash, and if you can spare the time, carry back plastic bottles and wrappers (ideally to a waste management / material recovery facility).
