He was the only skater of the evening to earn a standing ovation; and it had nothing to do with nationality. The crowd was international, the reaction unanimous. His skating didn’t just impress; it moved people. Power, musicality, control, emotion - every element landed.
👉This clip isn’t even from his individual performance, it’s from the gala finale, when all the skaters returned to the ice together. And somehow, even then, Ilia stood out throwing in two backflips and 2 quads just for fun, as if redefining what’s possible in Olympic figure skating comes naturally to him.
