When I bought our bargain olive trees last year from @bm_stores I had no idea how to keep them looking healthy year after year and heard some horror stories of them not making it through the frost. They bring such a beautiful Mediterranean feel to a garden, but they do need a little extra care in our UK climate.
They’re used to hot, dry conditions, so winter frost can be tough on them. Giving them a protective fleece - I like to think of it like a winter coat - during the coldest months can help prevent frost damage and keep them healthy until spring returns ☀️
We wrapped ours up over winter, and now that the temperatures are rising it’s time to take the coats off again. And I’m so glad I read up on it because as you can see, they’re looking just perfect in their @thebasketcompany rattan baskets in the sunshine (previous PR).
If you’re planning to add an olive tree to your garden this year, don’t forget to plan for winter protection too. Your future self will thank you. 🌿
