A couple of key points to remember: -a scant 1/4” or 1/8” seam allowance is required. This will ensure that this seam is hidden when You go to sew the puffs together using a regular 1/4” seam. -the pleat won’t always be exactly in the middle of the puff and that’s okay! -we’ll stuff the puffs in a few weeks, so leave the 4th side open for now! - Its not too late to join us! Here’s how I’m hand tying my puff quilt, using the supplies from our last reel. … Thread the needle with a double strand of crochet thread, then stitch across the square intersection diagonally. You can see that it takes a bit to get through all the layers of the puff squares. Next, tie a square knot and head to the next intersection without cutting the thread. Continue until you run out of length, then cut thread in half between each knot. Quilt update: IT'S FINISHED!!!♥️ It's the poofiest, squishiest, and now most adored thing I own (goal accomplished☑️). It was a creative goal of mine to make my first quilt this year. I have always admired the work of quilters from afar, always saying to myself, "you should make one!" With only a few months left at the end of the year, i finally started... working a little bit on it each evening. A few months later with only two days before 2023 struck, I stitched that last stitch✨️ 360 individual little patchwork puffs🫶 I made the entire quilt out of vintage fabrics. Some of them are scraps from pieces of clothing I made, or reworked for the shop... so some of you might recognize or have pieces in your closet from the shop with the same fabrics!♥️ Making something new from things that already exist is my absolute favorite thing to do... so it made sense to keep the same mindset when making my first quilt. The only new fabric used was the backing since I didn't have any pieces large enough. This magical poofy thing... is huge😆 While I was making it, I read so many books on the history of quilts and learned so much about their history. They are true love letters from the past...and the ones we make now are our way of writing love letters to the future. For those who are interested in making your own version I followed the @loandbeholdstitchery puff quilt tutorial. She laid everything out so easily (which I was so thankful for as a newbie). There are free, beautifully written instructions on her website as well as a very helpful video tutorial!! If making a quilt is something you have always wanted to do... give this one a shot!! I found it to be a lot of work, but through approachable steps... and I fell in love with the process of doing just a little bit each day. Thanks for following along with me on this journey when I posted tiny updates on it here and there in my stories. It made my day that some of you were interested in it too.
