Well, I researched it and here is the answer: These are called “Ora serrata pearls”, they are usually benign and asymptomatic, and are often discovered incidentally during routine eye examinations. They are thought to result from the accumulation of fluid within the ciliary body or from the proliferation of cells within the ciliary epithelium. Cr • @retina.rocks Let’s establish some boundaries…. Symptomatic retinal tear surrounded by laser photocoagulation This 60YO female presented with a symptomatic retinal tear in her left eye. Optos color RG imaging shows the break with localized surrounding subretinal fluid and a bridging vessel. The break was immediately surrounded by laser. When examined 1 month later, the tear and fluid were well demarcated, and no new breaks were found. Symptomatic retinal tears in the presence of an acute posterior vitreous detachment have a high risk for causing a rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Prophylactic retinopexy is therefore indicated. Treatment must completely surround the tear and ideally should extend to the ora serrata if possible. Both thermal laser photocoagulation and cryotherapy are equally effective in creating a vitreoretinal adhesion, which takes at least several weeks to form. The treatment must also be inspected during the postoperative period to ensure adequate scarring surrounds the break. Posted @withregram • @visus.formacion 🔷Pneumatic retinopexy🔷 🔷Retinal detachment🔷 🔶Surgical Case Series🔶 🟢 Pneumatic retinopexy is a minimally invasive, non-incisional procedure for repairing retinal detachment. 🟢 It consists of injecting an expandable gas and applying retinal cryotherapy or laser photocoagulation to seal retinal breaks. 🟢 The technique of repairing retinal detachments by retinopexy followed by gas endotamponade was first described by Rosengren in 1938. 🟢 However, this method was not widely practiced until after the publication of Hilton and Grizzard’s seminal paper in 1986, in which they describe what we recognize as modern pneumatic retinopexy. 🟢 This procedure is associated with reduced morbidity, reduced cost and faster postoperative recovery compared to pars plana vitrectomy and scleral buckling. 🟢 Superior visual acuity outcomes have also been reported. 🟢 Intraoperative complications are primarily related to the intraocular pressure rise caused by gas injection, or the misdirection of the gas. 🟢 There is a low rate of postoperative complications.
