OSI Model #be_cyber_safe #networksecurity #ᴠɪʀᴀʟᴘᴏsᴛ #growthmindset 🌐 The 7 Layers of the OSI Model 1. Physical Layer This is the lowest layer, responsible for transmitting raw bits over a physical medium such as cables, switches, or wireless signals. It deals with hardware elements like voltage levels, connectors, and data rates. 2. Data Link Layer This layer ensures reliable data transfer between two directly connected devices. It handles error detection, frame synchronization, and MAC addressing. 3. Network Layer Responsible for routing data packets across multiple networks. It determines the best path for data to travel using logical addressing like IP addresses. 4. Transport Layer This layer ensures end-to-end communication and reliability. It manages data flow, error recovery, and segmentation using protocols like TCP and UDP. 5. Session Layer Manages sessions or connections between applications. It establishes, maintains, and terminates communication sessions. 6. Presentation Layer Acts as a translator between the application and the network. It handles data encryption, compression, and formatting so that different systems can understand each other. 7. Application Layer The top layer, closest to the end user. It provides network services directly to applications like web browsers, email clients, and file transfer programs. 📌 Why the OSI Model is Important Simplifies network troubleshooting by isolating issues to specific layers Promotes interoperability between different systems and vendors Helps in designing and understanding complex network architectures Serves as a standard teaching tool in networking and cybersecurity 💡 In Simple Terms Think of the OSI model like sending a message: each layer adds its own instructions (packaging, addressing, delivery rules), ensuring the message reaches the correct destination accurately and securely.

It looks like you meant ISO and OSI model—these are closely related in computer networking. Let’s explain them clearly 👇 🔹 What is ISO? ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is an organization that develops international standards. Full form: International Organization for Standardization Founded: 1947 Purpose: To create standards for technology, communication, quality, etc. 👉 In networking, ISO created the OSI Model to standardize communication between different systems. 🔹 What is OSI Model? OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) Model is a conceptual framework used to understand how data travels over a network. Developed by ISO Divides communication into 7 layers Helps in: Network design Troubleshooting Understanding data flow 🔹 7 Layers of OSI Model 1. Physical Layer Deals with hardware and transmission Examples: cables, switches, signals Function: Sends raw bits (0s and 1s) 2. Data Link Layer Responsible for error detection and correction Works with MAC addresses Devices: Switches 3. Network Layer Handles routing and addressing Uses IP addresses Device: Router 4. Transport Layer Ensures reliable data delivery Protocols: TCP, UDP Functions: Error checking Flow control 5. Session Layer Manages sessions/connection Opens, maintains, and closes communication 6. Presentation Layer Deals with data format and encryption Converts data into readable format Example: Encryption/Decryption 7. Application Layer Closest to user Provides services like: Email Web browsing Protocols: HTTP, FTP, SMTP 🔹 Easy Trick to Remember Layers 👉 Top to Bottom: A P S T N D P (Application → Physical) 👉 Bottom to Top: Please Do Not Throw Sausage Pizza 🍕 🔹 Summary ISO → Organization that creates standards OSI Model → 7-layer framework for network communication Used to understand how data moves from sender to receiver #trending #networking #technology #topology orking #osi

Most people memorize the OSI model… but don’t really understand what it does. The OSI model is not just theory — it’s a structured way to understand how data moves across a network, layer by layer. When you send a request (like opening a website), your data doesn’t just “go” to the server. It gets processed step-by-step: • Application layer creates the request (HTTP, FTP, etc.) • Presentation layer handles encryption and formatting (SSL/TLS) • Session layer manages the connection lifecycle • Transport layer ensures reliable delivery using TCP/UDP • Network layer handles IP addressing and routing • Data Link layer manages MAC addressing and framing • Physical layer transmits raw bits as signals Each layer has a specific responsibility. That’s the whole point — separation of concerns. And this is exactly why debugging networks becomes easier. If something breaks, you don’t guess — you isolate the layer. For example: No internet? Could be Physical. Wrong IP routing? Network layer. Packet loss? Transport layer. So don’t just mug up the layers — understand the flow. That’s what actually makes you better than 90% of developers. And yeah, if you still struggle remembering it: All People Should Try New Domino’s Pizza 🍕 #osimodel #computernetworks #networkingbasics #backenddevelopment #systemdesign

Understand the OSI Model — Think Like a Network Engineer The OSI model breaks networking into clear layers, helping you understand how data moves, where problems happen, and how attacks are executed. From HTTP and encryption to TCP, IP, and physical connections — each layer has its role and its risks. If you want to troubleshoot faster, secure systems better, and truly understand networking, the OSI model is your foundation. Save it. Learn it. Use it.
