One of my favorite underhook counters is none other than a standing bundle throw (or Harai Goshi as my Judoka friends would say)
Clamp ⬇️ on the underhook with a strong (and high) Overhook🪝
CONTROL head position & the opponents FAR Arm💪
Feed the far arm to the Overhook💥
Use your free arm to grab the opponents head & circle them to get them to step and plant all their weight on the far leg✅
Step thru & kick THRU their far leg out (as if it’s not even there) above their knee for maximum FORCE😤🔥
Maintain control of the head/bundle as they hit the mat to land in a secure/controlled pinning position‼️🙏

BRHere’s a pretty basic Underhook counter that I like to use when my opponent pressures into me heavily.
This one is pretty safe and if you’d like you can keep the overhook and finish a dump instead of a regular single leg.
A great example of this is David Taylor vs Hassan Yazadani in the 2022 World Finals in Oslo. Taylor does this exact sequence probably 10 times to escape the best Underhook in the world.

REYounes Emami combing the throw by with the metzger finish - this is a very nice combination where Emami initially gets to his underhook and hits a throw by but gets stuck, Emami wants to take the weight off him but the opponent shifts his weight and makes his overhook heavy, when Emami feels this shift in weight he switches from looking for the near leg to the far leg into a metzger style finish which creates a dilemma for the opponent; keep the overhook and get took down or release the overhook and give up the back. The opponent choose the latter in this example.

MAPj Barch vs Andrew Tackett is a great example of the battle of Overhook vs Underhook.
Essentially, the player with a knee inside is winning. When it comes to an underhook, you can hit an uki goshi. When you have the overhook, you can hit an Uchi Mata. Early on Tackett was being countered by PJ's Uchi Mata's and off balances, but was able to adapt later on in the match.
