If you’re able to just show up for yourself for at least 10-30 minutes 3 or 4 times a week you’ll really get the bug rather than killing yourself with intense workouts. I am not an extreme exerciser. I never got into going to the gym or regular work out classes. I walk a ton but don’t go for runs. I did have some periods of consistent barre classes and pilates. 2.5 years ago I injured my shoulder while doing modified pull ups. Then I was in a car accident last november that injured my mid back. I’m well on my road to recovery, but in part due to the accident i gained 15-20 pounds and my walking was more limited. 😝 Im back to walking 2-4 miles a day again and I signed up for @pvolve - they have classes that don’t require equipment. I like that they have a functional spin on everything. The monthly membership is also way more reasonable than any other online program. #agingiscool #functionaltraining #pvolve #exerciseover40 #workoutmotivation

It’s all about the basics: - Strength Train: We need load to build muscle. Muscle is your key to longevity- from metabolic health, to bone support, to energy, to managing blood sugar; so lift heavy and get adequate protein to build that muscle. - Stress Management: A theme that kept emerging is that high stress can affect your health as much as smoking a pack of cigarettes daily. Managing stress is critical so spend time learning how to regulate your nervous system! - Cardiovascular Health: Heart disease is still the leading cause of mortality in both men and women, with women’s risk increasing after menopause. Estrogen protects the heart so it is critical to train the heart, always. Short intervals are very heart protective. - Sleep: 7-8 hours is ideal for stabilizing your mood, for brain health, and to boost your metabolism - Eat Whole Foods: Fiber-rich, low glycemic and protein forward is the longevity framework. Train fueled otherwise your body uses muscle for energy which stalls your ability to build muscle. Instead, try an overnight fast of 12-14 hours by eating dinner earlier. - Community: You know who live longest? People who have deep relationships. Those who are lonely have a shorter life expectancy. So pick up the phone, set those dates, and make time for the people who fill you up! Remember, nothing happens overnight. Don’t get me wrong —this may work for many people! But I prefer the approach that every single one of us is BIO-INDIVIDUAL and there is no one size fits all way to weight loss/body composition changes! For me personally— I began exercising LESS (and gentler) and began eating MORE (more protein, more carbs, more healthy fats) and my body composition began to change. Where you are in the menstrual cycle, the menopausal transition, and throughout alllll stages of life…OUR BODIES NEEDS EBB & FLOW! Eating TOO little (only caring about being in a calorie defict versus the actual FUNCTION of what you are putting in your body) and/or OVER exercising (too much cardio/no recovery etc) CAN end up creating a stressful environment for the body /negatively affecting results 👎🏼 (and to not make this caption any longer-more on that to come😛)

I see so many social media posts saying things like this and it makes me so upset🥺 (and honestly I used to believe some of these types of things too!) As I continue to educate myself, I have learned more & more how exercise is truly just one piece of the puzzle. Body composition specifically is influenced not just by exercise, but nutrition, genes, hormones, stress levels, and more! And no “one” exercise is going to give you “a 6 pack”, “‘tone’ just a certain area’” or make everyone’s body look the same way. Instead I focus on building muscle, strength, mobility, stability & just overall better body awareness to our OWN unique & beautiful bodies with my clients 🫶🏻🫶🏻
