CHThis GMC Yukon has been sitting for 18 months with a mystery problem that caused it to misfire while driving, and sometimes die. It sounded AWFUL & had every mechanics favorite code P0300! Which means “Random or multiple misfire detected” - helpful right?
After hauling this bad boy over to the shop on our trailer & a few hours of diagnosis at Chamberlain Customs, we finally found the mystery issue causing all the problems!
It was a bad ground for the ignition coils! Yep, just two little black wires wreaking havoc. Check out the video to hear how bad this Yukon ran without a good enough ground, and the difference in performance when properly grounded!
We’re happy to see this Yukon back on the road, and the customer was so overjoyed she gave her beast a great big hug after a nice long test drive!

• Dirt on this sensor can trigger lean codes (P0171/P0174).
• Remove carefully and spray with MAF cleaner only (not carb cleaner).
EGR Valve
• Carbon buildup can clog the EGR passage and cause check engine light.
• Clean with carb cleaner and a brush if accessible.
Oxygen Sensors (O2)
• Light carbon buildup may be cleaned, but usually replacement is better if bad.
• Make sure the issue isn’t just a loose wire or exhaust leak first.
Battery Terminals & Ground Connections
• Poor electrical connections can trigger random sensor codes.
• Clean with a wire brush and re-tighten.

3. Other Simple Fixes
• Gas Cap – If loose or dirty, can trigger EVAP codes (P0440, P0457).
• Clean rubber seal, tighten until it clicks.
• Air Filter – Replace or clean if clogged — a dirty one can affect fuel trim.
• Spark Plugs – If fouled, cleaning/replacing them can stop misfire codes.

• Disconnect the battery for 10–15 minutes or use a scanner to clear the code.
• Drive the car for a few trips to see if the light stays off.
