“Don Hanson loved Packards. In 1978, the Classic Car Club of America member finally found one he could afford: a one-time elegant town car that had suffered an aborted truck conversion before being abandoned to rust. Collectors considered it hopeless; Hanson considered it a challenge. He bought it.
Packard’s long-time slogan, “Ask the man who owns one,” finally applied to the Minnesota mortgage banker. Doing most of the work himself, with advice from club members and help from some talented craftspeople, Hanson was able to complete it ... in “just” 30 years.
In 1998 he found a donor body and frame to use for parts and reference. By 2003, he’d dismantled all components and restored each part. Fabricating body parts started in 1998; it was complete and painted by 2007. STThis 1941 Packard Clipper is cool for a variety of reasons. For starters, it is the first year of the first ever Clipper. Secondly, it was produced at Packard's legendary Detroit factory on East Grand Boulevard. Third, it is one of roughly 17K Clippers produced before Detroit switched all production to supporting the Allied Powers in World War II. And finally, fully restored and updated with just the right amount of modern amenities, it is probably one of the nicest 1941 Packard Clippers on the planet!

Many Packards, such as this one in military olive drab, were used as staff cars in World War II, including by Generals Eisenhower and MacArthur during and after the war. MacArthur even ordered a 1942 Packard 120 eight Clipper custom at his own expense; however, Packard returned his check with a letter of gratitude for his confidence in their products and promised to deliver a car to him in Australia with their compliments. Army Packards often were modified with racks for Thompson submachine guns, sirens, blackout lights and other military equipment, including air conditioning for Gen. Eisenhower and Gen. MacArthur.
