PAMy second most asked question is always how I learnt R
I taught myself mainly by just trial and error (I have to actually physically do something I can’t just watch videos as I don’t take it in) so I started with the very basics.
I think it’s so easy to overdo and feel like you need to know how to do everything or a lot of things at the start. Stick to simple things like understanding the R studio interface and loading packages and other basic commands
(after this most things I learnt were googling very specifically what I needed to do and adding the command to a ‘useful command’ list I have)
Next:
Following a vignette from start to finish (one that would be similar to what I would soon need) I then would go through and click on functions to look at the arguments (this tells you all the parameters for the function) and how I can change them if needed!
Finally try swirl it’s so easy to just load directly in the terminal and you learn as you go!

Claude Dispatch vs OpenClaw → OpenClaw. Dispatch abstracts too much. I want to play with the toy + switch to an open source model whenever I want
Replit vs Lovable → Replit. Lovable gets you to a demo. Replit gets you to a real environment.
Codex vs Copilot → Codex. I’d prefer Architect instead of Assistant.
Grok vs Claude → Claude. Grok is great if you also need your AI to have opinions about Elon.
Cursor vs Windsurf → Cursor. I feel “human-like” pair programming there.
v0 vs DeepSeek → v0. DeepSeek forgets certain topics exist.
NotebookLM vs Amazon Q → NotebookLM. Amazon Q is for AWS ecosystem. NotebookLM just works with whatever PDF I throw at it.
Gemini vs Perplexity → Gemini. Perplexity finds the answer. Gemini finds the answer and knows what to do with it.
Round 2️⃣
OpenClaw vs Replit → OpenClaw. I can ask it to kick off Replit app 🙂
Codex vs Claude → Claude. Just a personal preference. Both have declined in quality recently, but I prefer Claude’s infrastructure and have more confidence in their vision.
Cursor vs v0 → Cursor. AI-powered IDE vs Vercel’s UI generator? Answer is obvious
NotebookLM vs Gemini → Gemini. That’s the engine of NotebookLM.
Semis 3️⃣
OpenClaw vs Claude → Claude. From a developer perspective OpenClaw is more of a butler. So if I need some serious engineering, I’d choose Claude.
Cursor vs NotebookLM → Cursor. Different categories honestly. But Cursor is where I spend 10 hours a day. The tool you live in wins.
