A panic attack comes on suddenly and peaks within minutes. Your body floods with fear so intensely that many people believe they’re having a heart attack or about to die. Your chest tightens, your heart races, and it can feel like your body has completely lost control. An anxiety attack tends to build slowly over time. It’s racing thoughts, spiraling worries, and a constant sense of dread that makes it hard to stay present. Instead of an explosive surge of fear, the mind retreats inward trying to manage the overwhelming stream of thoughts. Both are deeply distressing experiences. Both can make a person feel powerless in their own body and mind. They just move through the nervous system in very different ways. If you’re experiencing one, grounding can help bring your body back to the present moment: 1️⃣ Run cold water or ice on your hand, this will cause you to focus on the present and cool your body down 2️⃣ Sit with your arms wrapped around you, the pressure will help trigger the vagus nerve and bring calm 3️⃣ Focus on your breath in for 4, hold for 4, breath out for 4, hold for 4. The change in breathing will tell your body you are safe Save this for later Follow for more ❤️‍🩹 @djweeks_

This is parenting a child with high levels of anxiety. She has small panic attacks frequently for various things; change in routine, inability to do great at something immediately, something going wrong, etc. This week has been extra hard as I have started to go back into work some days and next week school starts and that mix is what likely brought on This severe panic attack. This was the tail end once her medicine started to kick in and her body had already been exhausted from 20-30 minutes froM the start. We have worked very hard to help her voice if touch is better or worse and what her needs are. It’s a long road ahead, but I am posting this so that others going through this know they aren’t alone. It is hard as a mom, I have a ton of guilt bc I am one of her triggers, she has a lot of stress over me and me being safe and available to her when she needs. This is not always possible as I work full time as well and the transition from remote for 1.5 yrs to hybrid is hard on her. I foresee more bigger panic attacks with all of these changes occurring. This as a parent also gives me anxiety, but I have to hide that from her and show her coping mechanisms. For now I will sit next to her and no move an inch until she is asleep enough that I am able to take her to bed. Remember when you see kids having tantrums, hard time with things like separation or perfectionism or anything, know it’s not always manipulative behavior or something they can control. Even fun things like video games start the anxiety cycle when she feels like she is messing up. Some tips we use are from @melrobbins and #54321 and putting her hand on her heart and saying Aria is safe, Aria is ok, Aria is loved. *video/post taken with her permission, we take it to show the doctors and the bucket is because the panic attack gets so bad she feels like she is going to throw up - which worsens the anxiety bc she has anxiety about throwing up #kidswithanxiety #anxiety #autism #panicattack #anxietyawareness #anxietyattack #anxietywarrior #anxietytips #mom #momlife #momlifeishard #nursemom #nursemomlife #reels #reelsinstagram #reellife #reallife

They're not just "stress" or "overreacting." A panic attack feels like your heart’s racing out of control, your chest tightening like a cage, and every moment stretching into eternity. It’s more than “being anxious.” It’s real, and it deserves real understanding and support. To everyone struggling: You are stronger than you know. To those supporting loved ones: Listening and empathy mean everything. Have you ever experienced this? Share your story in the comments, it could help someone else feel less alone. #panicattack #mentalhealthawareness #therapyforteens #tft #BreakTheStigma #mentalhealth #teens #student #reels #explore

This works. Our eyes are amazing and connected to so many major body and emotional processes . • 80% of the information we take in comes through vision • The retina is an extension of the developing brain and is made up of neurons • The retina is the only part of the brain that is ever exposed to light • Almost ½ the brain is connected to visual processing • The tranquility of the mind and activation of the eves are linked There are 200 million working parts in the eyes • vision is linked to mental and emotional states, affecting eye movements #anxiety #anxietyrelief #therapy #brainspotting #panicattack #emdr #therapytips #panicdisorder #anxietyawareness #therapistsofinstagram

👉🏻👉🏻 If you struggle with anxiety or panic yourself, feel free to share this video with friends, family, or your partner. 😘 👉🏻👉🏻 If you’re supporting someone, a panic attack might feel scary for you too. You want to help. You want to stop it. But panic is not a logical problem — it’s a nervous system state. The brain’s alarm center is activated. Arguments don’t reach it. What helps instead: – Presence – A calm voice – Slow movements – Orientation in the environment – Gentle physical contact (if wanted) Don’t say: “Calm down.” Say: “I’m here. You’re safe.” Safety regulates. Not discussion. And sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is to stay calm — while the other person can’t 🤍 From heart to heart, Christina #anxiety #anxietyrelieftips #anxietywarrior #mentalhealthhelp

Not every panic attack looks dramatic. Sometimes it looks like silence… and survival happening at the same time. What it feels like: A panic attack is sudden and intense — racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness, trembling, chest tightness. It feels like losing control or dying, even when you’re physically safe. An anxiety attack builds gradually — excessive worry, restlessness, muscle tension, overthinking, irritability. It feels like your mind won’t switch off. Psychological insight: Both are linked to an overactivated fight-or-flight response. Your nervous system detects threat — even when there isn’t one. The amygdala signals danger, cortisol rises, and your body prepares to survive. It’s not weakness. It’s a dysregulated stress response. What it looks like externally: • Someone going quiet • Sudden withdrawal from conversations • Rapid breathing or fidgeting • Avoidance behaviors • Tearfulness or irritability What to do in the moment: 1. Label it: “This is anxiety. I am safe.” 2. Practice slow breathing (4-4-6 method). 3. Ground yourself using the 5-4-3-2-1 technique. 4. Relax your jaw and shoulders intentionally. 5. Let the wave peak and pass — don’t fight it. To reduce frequency long-term: • Improve sleep hygiene • Limit caffeine intake • Regular physical movement • Journaling triggers • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques • Professional psychological support when needed You are not “too sensitive.” You are overstimulated — and your nervous system can learn safety again. Panic attack vs anxiety attack - they don’t look or feel the same. ⚠️🧠 This is why so many people feel confused. On one side 👇 😮‍💨 Panic attack Shaky hands. Racing heart. Overwhelming fear. Your body hits the alarm button all at once 🚨 On the other 👇 😐 Anxiety attack Still. Quiet. Staring into space. Your mind is loud, but your body looks calm. Both are real. Both are exhausting. And neither means you’re broken. Here’s the part no one tells you 👇 Just because it looks different, doesn’t mean it’s less serious. ✨ Important: This is not medical advice. If you’re unsure, your symptoms are new, or you’re worried - always get checked by a medical professional. If this helped you understand what you’re experiencing: 💾 Save this for clarity when symptoms hit 💬 Comment ‘NOW’ and I’ll send you something to help stabilise when things spike!! 🔔 Follow for grounded education on anxiety, panic & recovery - no fear, no fluff Understanding comes first.
