Bare skin creates contrast and balance.

3️⃣ Think long-term

You need to anticipate future pieces, expansion areas, and how everything will connect. Improvising today can limit what you want tomorrow.
4️⃣ Not every style works together
Heavy blackwork, delicate fine line, detailed realism…
Mixing styles without intention breaks harmony. Line weight, density, and contrast need consistency.
5️⃣ The difference is in the artist’s eye
It’s not just about the design. It’s about composition.
Placement, proportion, spacing, and how the entire arm reads as one piece.

PH⭐️ 1) YOU DONT NEED TO HAVE YOUR WHOLE ARM PLANNED BEFORE YOU START
So long as you have a general idea of what you want the end result to look like you can figure it out as the sessions go by and your artist will generally have good advice to help you. An important element to be aware of before you start would be the gap size you want between your tattoos.
⭐️ 2) TO COMPLETE A FULL SLEEVE TAKES TIME
People usually underestimate the time and commitment it takes to finish a full sleeve. A patchwork sleeve can be made up of up to 20 tattoos depending on the size of each and most of the time you will probably get 2-3 done in a session, maybe only 1 sometimes if you are doing a tough spot like the elbow.
⭐️ 3) TRY TO BE OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS AND GUIDANCE FROM YOUR ARTIST
Whilst your ideas and what you personally want is most important, sometimes a little adjustment in size or positioning off the back of your artists professional advice can be very helpful and go a long way to make the overall look work more cohesively
