Patterning particles with light ✨ Extracellular vesicles (EVs) and particles (EPs/EVPs) are lipid nanoparticles that cells release as “postal packages”, carrying messages to recipient cells. They play a significant role in human health and disease. But to better understand the role of EVs in living systems, scientists need to be able to visualise them. Researchers developed light-induced extracellular vesicle and particle adsorption (LEVA) - a scalable and tunable platform for deciphering diverse EVP micropatterns. The team tethered single EVs onto glass surfaces with antibodies and detected their molecular cargo with high-resolution fluorescence microscopy. UV photopatterning produced synthetic EV trails, enabling the team to study cell migration on mimetic trails. These results demonstrate the versatility of LEVA in advancing our understanding of EVPs in various biological contexts. This method could lead to innovative applications in biomimetic research and immunoengineering in the future. This research was published in Nature Methods. Xilal Y. (EN/FR) Not showing: patterning, a no-make-up make up and inserting a zirconium crystal inside a 3d printed ring 💍 A lot of people have been debating about cosplay contests judging lately. Which is very positive because another bunch of a lot of people sometimes don't understand the results 😅 Just imagine me winning the ECG with this "simple" white dress. I've read comments about me being in nightwear. I've read comments about judges having 💩 in the eyes. I've read very ugly things, false things from people that were not even there. The road is still long to the point where judges choices will be fully understood; I sometimes don't get it when I watch contests, BUT I know I haven't seen everything and I cannot judge. Could be a good idea to show more of the details and techniques before or after performances. NCC is doing it and it's pretty interesting to know about the work we can't see from afar or through the screen. So before we criticize and write down hurtful things, we should all try to get curious and learn. Cosplay contests are (mostly) about the finest craftsmanship, variety of techniques, roleplay, storytelling... there's a whole grid for every contest. A quick line to bring up the importance of selecting experienced and variously skilled judges, with professional behaviour, even in the smallest contests. Another quick line to highlight the hard work of every contestant. When the judges tell you the choice is difficult because everyone deserves to win, well, that's not nonsense 😉 Big shoutout to @tyarmor.creation and @edes_fx for helping me with new techniques. 💪 #cosplay #cosplaycontest #getcuriousnotfurious

After we get artwork in the door, we first trace it on a tablet and then blow it up to scale in manageable smaller sections where we pattern the artwork on butcher paper. Patterning means burning tiny holes into butcher paper using our tried and true electro-pounce machine. The electro-pounce pen conducts tiny bits of electricity onto the metal-backed butcher paper burning tiny holes into it – creating a perforated roadmap. We take that roadmap to the wall and hit it with bags of charcoal to transfer that outline onto the wall. After all this is done, and the paint colors are mixed, we get to paint! #alwayshandpaint #20colossalyears
