Scientists were busy arguing whether PDA even exists. Meanwhile, you were at home trying behavior charts, reward systems, and stricter consequences — and being told to try harder when none of it worked. Nobody was studying what *actually* helps PDA families. Scientifically. In a peer-reviewed journal. Until now. 👩‍💻 In 2025, researchers at the University of Michigan Medical School published the first-ever peer-reviewed study on a parent support program designed specifically for families of PDA children and teens. Here’s what they found: → 85% of enrolled parents completed the full 12-week program → Statistically significant improvements in 10 of 13 parent health measures — including anxiety, depression, stress, anger, sleep, and caregiver strain → Significant reduction in demand avoidance behaviors in children → 90% of parents reported improved mental health, greater confidence, and a better relationship with their child → 81% said their connection with their child improved These weren’t only self-reported impressions. They were also measured using PROMIS, Neuro-QoL, and NIH Toolbox — the same validated clinical instruments used in major medical trials. The research just caught up to what you already knew. 💬 Comment SCIENCE and we’ll DM you a link to the full study. — 📄 Full citation: Carlozzi, N. E., Lombard, W. L., Troost, J. P., Graves, C. I was told that autistic people struggle to read social cues and understand the experience of others. But my autistic daughter has an unmatched ability to read people. Nothing gets past her. She has the strongest bullshit meter I’ve ever seen. The only thing she’s not understanding is why the heck everyone is pretending and suppressing and going along with things that don’t feel right. Know what I mean? Let me know your thoughts on this👇 #pda #autismmum #autismparents #senparenting #unmasking

In case you dont know what PDA is..its known as pathalogical demand avoidance or persistent drive for autonomy. Or we call it = Poppy Doesn't Agree. Every day we start by going through all the things listed for in the video to get her to brush her teeth but the one we always finish up with is the last one. Is this helpful? No but does it work? Also, no. Follow me for more ways on how to not parent autistic kids. 🤣 #pda #autismpda #autismcomedy #mumtips

Some mornings at the school gates break something inside you. Your child clings to you, their arms wrapped tightly around your waist, their face buried into you while they beg you not to make them go in. “Please don’t leave me.” And every instinct in your body is screaming the same thing. Take them home. Protect them. Make it stop. But instead you negotiate. You reassure. You promise it will be okay. You pull every ounce of strength you have left just to get through those few minutes. Because maybe you have to go to work. Maybe you’re terrified that if you turn around and go home, that will be the end of school forever. Maybe you’re trying to trust a system that keeps telling you this is what your child needs. So you do the hardest thing imaginable. You walk away. You walk away while your child cries. While their hands reach for you. While every part of you feels like you’re abandoning the person you love most in the world. And then you get into your car and sit there for a moment… trying to steady your breathing before you face the rest of your day. Because the world expects you to carry on like nothing just happened. People see a child who “won’t go to school.” They don’t see the mornings that started at 6am with negotiations. They don’t see the exhaustion. The fear you’re getting it wrong. The constant second guessing. And they definitely don’t see the mother whose heart is breaking in the car park. So if you ever see that mum at the school gates… Give her grace. She’s not weak. She’s not failing. She’s not raising a difficult child. She’s carrying a weight most people will never understand. And she’s doing the best she can with the information, the pressure, and the love she has. Because behind every one of those moments… Is a mother who would move mountains to make the world easier for her child. And right now, she’s just trying to survive the morning. Because the world sees a difficult child… but a mother sees a child who is drowning 🤍 . . . . . . #motherslove #pda #school #motherhood

The internal "no" is so strong when someone tells me to do something I was literally just about to start. My brain treats it like an unwanted demand and immediately shuts down the motivation engine. It’s like my brain is a rebellious teenager that refuses to cooperate, even when I know I should just get it done 🚫🙅‍♂️✨ Does your motivation evaporate the second someone tells you what to do?
