FOA heated confrontation between state lawmakers happened Wednesday during a committee meeting.
Today, State Rep. Justin Pearson (D-Memphis) presented a new bill regarding Tennessee’s gun laws, citing the current “gun violence epidemic” in the state, at today’s House Criminal Justice Subcommittee meeting.
Rep. Pearson has been away from his post at the state capitol as of late due to the death of his brother, who died by shooting himself late last year.
Rep. Farmer responded to Pearson’s presentation of the bill by saying, “I don’t think it’s fair for you to come before this committee and lecture us on hard work and convictions and hard work for our committee, so I understand where you’re at and what you are doing and why, but at the end of the day, we’ve been here working.”
The conversation continued to escalate, with Pearson explaining the death of his brother as the reason for his absence followed by him walking up on to the stand where Farmer sat.
Other representatives, including House Majority Leader William Lamberth held Pearson back from further confrontation with Farmer who made no eye contact with him during the exchange.
