Chaotic Motion of a Rolling Pendulum! Experience the mesmerizing world of classical mechanics with this simulation of a Rolling Wheel Pendulum. We dive deep into the math using the Lagrangian formula to model the kinetic and potential energy of a wheel rolling inside a track with a pendulum attached. Watch as the system transitions from simple motion to a complex, beautiful orange trace that highlights the chaotic nature of double-degree-of-freedom systems. #physics #pendulum #mechanics #manim #chaos

Give the pendulum arm a push and watch as gravity and the earth's rotation take over creating geometric patterns in the sand. The fine sand provides minimal friction allowing the pendulum to swing for up to 5 minute periods as it gently "writes". Ever wondered why a swinging pendulum stays in a perfect circle instead of just crashing down? It is all about the balance of forces! In a conical pendulum, the tension in the string does two jobs at once: part of it pulls up to fight gravity, while the other part pulls inward to keep the ball moving in a circle. This inward pull is what we call centripetal force. If you’ve ever been on a “Swings” ride at a theme park, you have been a human conical pendulum! 🎡📐 Follow @seleniumed for more mind-blowing physics! #instagram #reels #physics #education #stem

At first glance, this looks like a simple swinging pendulum. But it’s actually one of the most famous demonstrations of chaos theory. This setup is called a double pendulum — two pendulums connected together. Even the smallest change in the starting position can cause completely different motion. That means the system follows the laws of physics perfectly… yet becomes extremely unpredictable. This is called deterministic chaos, where tiny differences in the beginning create huge differences in the outcome. It’s a powerful reminder that even simple systems can behave in incredibly complex ways. Want to start your digital journey? Chaotic Triple Pendulum: the intricate dance of chaotic motion from an assembly of three physical pendulums, shown here (partly) in 120 fps slow motion, where the energy imparted to the system moves back and forth between the potential energy of gravity to the kinetic energy of motion until eventually damped out via friction. Chaotic motion is characterized by extreme sensitivity to initial starting conditions, tiny differences in how the system is released leads to dramatically different outcomes each time. A pendulum does not care how far it swings, and that is the surprising part. For small angles, the time it takes to complete one full back and forth motion remains nearly the same, even if the starting push is slightly stronger or weaker. The period depends primarily on the length of the pendulum and the strength of gravity, not on its mass or how dramatic the motion appears. Mathematically, the period is proportional to the square root of the length divided by gravitational acceleration, which explains why longer pendulums swing more slowly and shorter ones move faster. This relationship is so consistent that pendulums were used for precise timekeeping in clocks for centuries. From something as simple as a string, a weight, and gravity, a steady and predictable rhythm emerges.

A simple demonstration of order and chaos (and order again). Twelve simple uncoupled pendulums, with equal weights and monotonically increasing lengths, dance together to produce visual waves, standing waves and apparently random movements, but which exhibit diverse harmonic symmetries recognized by us in natural occurrences, such as the DNA helices themselves. You could call it kinetic art and the choreography of the pendulum dance is impressive! The pendulum wave is a physical phenomenon based on several independent pendulums that are adjusted very precisely in relation to the period (or frequency) of oscillation. Each pendulum can swing independently of the other. “The keystone of the entire structure of the spiritual and physical universe is Rhythmic Balanced Interchange between all opposites.” ~ Walter Russell ✧ What are your thoughts on this? 🎶✨🌊⚖️🌀 #SacredGeometry #UniversalGeometry #LanguageOfLight #Mathematics #UniversalMathematics #Math #Philosophy #Art #Geometry #Symmetry #Fractals #Cycles #Rhythm #Universe #Harmony #Vibration #Frequency #Energy #Hermeticism #Life #Manifestation #Alchemy #SpiritualScience #UnifiedScience #Consciousness #Education #Knowledge

This is a physical demonstration of 15 uncoupled pendulums, each with a slightly different length. Released at the same time, their individual frequencies cause the entire system to create traveling waves, standing waves, beats, and even moments of apparent "chaos". But nothing here is random. The longest pendulum completes 51 oscillations in 60 seconds. Each shorter one swings one more time than the last, so the shortest (15th) completes 65 oscillations per minute. Over time, their motions drift in and out of sync, creating mesmerizing wave patterns (all due to small frequency differences). Each pendulum swings in simple harmonic motion, like a sine wave in space and time. It helps visualizing: • Constructive and destructive interference • Phase shifts over time • Beats, wave patterns, and synchronization • A real-life, physical Fourier visualization This is not just a toy, this is actually how oscillatory systems, sound waves, and even quantum states behave. It is pretty much some string, weight, and math together, after all. (**Originally designed by Richard Berg (Am. J.
