Visibility is important at workplace and if you are not letting people know who you are and what you bring to the team, function & the organization then you are doing yourself injustice.
You don’t need to make best friends at work or hanging out with people after work etc. stop giving yourself that excuse.
Here is what you do:
- Set up monthly reviews on your work with your boss.
- Quarterly Coffee Chats with your boss’s boss
- Monthly lunches/coffee chats with different function heads (meet one new person each month)
- Meet people from other teams bi-weekly for coffee/lunch
Make the conversation about them, how they are keeping themselves updated on AI, how they make quick decisions, projects they are excited about, problems they are solving… make the conversation about them.. you will get your chance to talk..
When your time comes… talk about the project highlights you are working on, results that you have delivered.. throw in a good word about your boss every now and then (word travels) ask to be part of any new or interesting project.. this is how you get visibility in corporate!
You just need those 1 on 1 chats to start getting noticed and that will get you the promotions & increments that you have been wanting all along!
Value yourself first and then share it will others and see the dynamics change.
