DI$20 Claude Cowork vs $200 Perplexity Computer
This is just my observation and personal experience after testing it with a few tasks
1. Basically, it’s an AI agent (for non-technical people) that can do some work for you, but it doesn’t use your computer like how Claude Cowork does. It runs those operations in a virtual browser which means agent can keep running even if you shut down your computer.
This means it can’t really access your sites like LinkedIn or Canva that require authentication. But it has a list of apps you can connect to using this third-party platform for every connection
So it’s a little annoying to set it up, and we’re only limited to these applications for agentic use. Which means for most of my agentic tasks, I’ll be using Claude CoWork, except the ones I want to run on autopilot without my computer being on.
2. I do like the AI orchestration using 19 different models where it automatically uses the best model for every task. So if I use it for research or strategy work, the results were actually significantly better and useful.
But similar functionality can be achieved using agent swarms in Kimi as well
And when the agent runs into any errors, I found that it wasn’t as proactive as Claude to figure all the issues by itself and just continue the task. It is still good but first impression is that it is not AS good.
And of course, for building dashboards like your investment research, is actually the most powerful use here along with the research.
Who should give Perplexity Computer a shot
1. If research is big part of what you do (or your research periodically needs to fetch new data and update reports/dashboards)
2. If you want your AI Agents to run in the background even if your computer is turned off
3. If all the major business tools you use are already supported by Perplexity Computer (it is a huge list, and I am sure they will add more)
