This humble chapel built of dark basalt marks the spot where the resurrected Jesus prepared a charcoal fire and shared a miraculous breakfast of fish and bread with his disciples. Stepping inside to see the Mensa Christi - the “Table of Christ” limestone rock where that meal took place - brings the Gospel of John to life in a way that is hard to describe. It is the very place where Jesus asked Peter “Do you love me?” and commissioned him to feed his sheep. The State of Israel has helped to maintain these historical sites for pilgrims, keeping alive its protection of freedom of religion within its borders so that people of all faiths can experience this sacred history firsthand.
