Finding your editing style is quite frankly EXHAUSTING. Each photographer not only varies in style, but also how they get to that style in LR. After about a year I’m finally finding some consistency and loving the work I produce.
I also have to call out that it’s not always the presets you use, it’s how you use them (for the most part)! I know that when I first started I was always wondering what presets other people are using because I wanted my work to look like them… Well I’m here to tell you, that just doesn’t work out 😂 presets are meant to be a base but they will not edit your images for you. It’s important you find your own style and how to manipulate presets to work towards that 🧡
At this point I have created my own personal preset based on what I want to achieve in my work - this isn’t for sale at this point! Things take so much time to test and see how the presets look across multiple camera bodies + locations in the world. More to come in 2024 around presets that are so user friendly + true to life colors. There used to be so many more adjustments that I made to images but building them into my own preset has been a GAME CHANGER.
Here is a breakdown of how I edited this specific image:
Add Loui preset
Increase exposure
Color grading
Sky mask
Subject mask
Dress mask (trying to take out some color)
2nd sky mask
Temp
Not every image gets the exact same amount of adjustments, and it’s really up to you to feel out the need for each photo. Some images may need much more such as tone curve but it’s all about practice to get that look you want 🧡

☝️ Here are a few essential editing tips to transform your photos into fascinating masterpieces. 📸
☝️ IMPORTANT ☝️
👉 use the right settings in your camera
👉 shoot in RAW to have more editing options
👉 pay attention to the composition in the picture to make it look interesting
👉 always try to have good light so that your picture is properly lit

👉 Image Cropping - show the Part of the Picture that is most interesting
👉 work with gradients and draw the viewer‘s eye to specific elements in the Image
👉 ColorGrading - try to edit different color areas individually so as not to change the entire image as a whole

My processing steps:
Start 👉 I correct exposure and shadows
Subject 👉 I increase the contrast, the exposure, if necessary I correct the colors to focus the viewer’s eye on it
Foreground/background 👉 I try to adjust the exposure so that the subject stands out from the background
☝️Masking:
👉 I add a linear gradient to draw attention to the essentials
👉 I use radial gradients to highlight certain objects in the image or to increase the lighting at certain points
👉 I work with different levels of focus in order to highlight something or make it look interesting
☝️ Bonus Tip ☝️
👉 Edit the eyes of your subject separately, increase the exposure and the contrast a little, deepen the black a little, mask the bright area separately again and increase the white component, this will make them start to shine, use the Clarity slider to make them shine AND you already have an eye-catcher in your picture.

HIThe tone curve is one of the most powerful tools for portrait editing - and it’s often overlooked.
In this shot, I created a subtle S-curve in Adobe Lightroom Mobile - slightly deepening the shadows for richer contrast, giving a gentle boost to the midtones to add dimension, and keeping the highlights under control to preserve detail.
Each section of the curve plays its part:
* Shadows control the depth and mood
* Midtones bring life and vibrancy
* Highlights protect the softness in bright areas
Even small adjustments can make a huge difference. Once you get comfortable using the tone curve, your portraits will start to feel more polished and intentional.
