This is a physical demonstration of 15 uncoupled pendulums, each with a slightly different length. Released at the same time, their individual frequencies cause the entire system to create traveling waves, standing waves, beats, and even moments of apparent "chaos". But nothing here is random. The longest pendulum completes 51 oscillations in 60 seconds. Each shorter one swings one more time than the last, so the shortest (15th) completes 65 oscillations per minute. Over time, their motions drift in and out of sync, creating mesmerizing wave patterns (all due to small frequency differences). Each pendulum swings in simple harmonic motion, like a sine wave in space and time. It helps visualizing: • Constructive and destructive interference • Phase shifts over time • Beats, wave patterns, and synchronization • A real-life, physical Fourier visualization This is not just a toy, this is actually how oscillatory systems, sound waves, and even quantum states behave. It is pretty much some string, weight, and math together, after all. (**Originally designed by Richard Berg (Am. J. Phys. 1991), this version was built by Nils Sorensen for the Harvard Natural Sciences Lecture Demonstrations.) --- 💡 Learn More: Pendulum Waves - Harvard University https://sciencedemonstrations.fas.harvard.edu/presentations/pendulum-waves [Sources] (🎞 Pendulum Waves - Harvard Natural Sciences Lecture Demonstrations) (🎼 Can You Hear The Music - Ludwig Göransson) (✍️ Description) 1. What looks like randomness here is actually one of the most studied forms of order in physics. This is a double pendulum with ring and bar, a mechanical oscillator set in motion by a simple torque from the hand, then governed by gravity, tension in the arms and the gradual loss of energy to friction and air resistance. For small displacements, it behaves like a simple harmonic pendulum, with regular, predictable swings. When the angles and speeds become larger, the nonlinear terms dominate and the system enters deterministic chaos, where tiny, almost invisible differences in the initial release lead to completely different trajectories over time. In technical language, the equations are deterministic, but the sensitivity to initial conditions makes long term prediction practically impossible. In everyday language, it is a reminder that complexity can emerge from very simple rules. I often think of this when I look at biological rhythms, heartbeats, brain waves, hormone cycles, all influenced by countless small inputs that accumulate into very different paths of health, adaptation and aging. “In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.” ~ Carl G. Why is this frozen black disk floating above magnets — and even locked in mid-air without touching them? It’s not a trick. It’s not science fiction. It’s quantum physics in action. But what exactly is going on? 👇 Answer: You’re watching quantum levitation, also known as quantum locking. The black disk is a high-temperature superconductor, pre-cooled in liquid nitrogen (~77 K). Once it reaches its critical temperature, it enters a unique quantum state with two key effects: 1. Meissner Effect – the superconductor expels all magnetic fields from inside, acting as a perfect diamagnet. This causes levitation over magnets. 2. Quantum Locking – in non-uniform magnetic fields, some magnetic flux lines penetrate the superconductor as quantized vortices. These vortices get pinned in the material’s structure, locking the object in a fixed height and orientation. This is why the disk hovers without moving or can glide frictionlessly along a magnetic track. This is not repulsion — it’s a quantum interaction between magnetic flux and superconducting domains. ⚛️ No friction. No contact. Just pure quantum mechanics. #QuantumLevitation #QuantumLocking #Superconductors #MeissnerEffect #QuantumPhysics #Cryogenics #LiquidNitrogen #Frictionless #ZeroResistance #MagneticLevitation #SciTech #PhysicsDemo #STEMEducation #AdvancedPhysics #ScienceVideo #ScientificPhenomenon #MagneticField #Magnetism #Supercooling #MaglevTechnology #YBCO #HighTcSuperconductor #FluxPinning #PhysicsMagic #MaterialsScience #EngineeringMarvel #DeepTech #CleanEnergyTech

Inertia (Newton’s First Law) means an object keeps moving at the same speed and direction unless a force acts on it. So, here, the ball initially wants to keep moving forward with the car’s speed. But then, the ball is thrown backward at the same speed as the car’s forward motion so the speeds cancel out (relative to the ground). 🚗 40km/h - ⚽️ 40km/h = 🛑 0 km/h Now, this canceling of speeds happens because you give the ball a backward velocity equal to the car’s forward velocity, making its net horizontal velocity zero relative to the ground. --- 💡 Learn More: Newton's Laws of Motion - Britannica https://www.britannica.com/science/Newtons-laws-of-motion [Sources] (🎞 Mythbusters - Soccer Ball Shot from Truck) (🎞 DD Squad - We Built a Car Ejection Seat!) This classic physics demonstration shows absolute trust in the law of conservation of energy. A heavy pendulum is released from rest, just inches away from the professor’s face. Because no extra force was added, the pendulum can never swing higher than its release point it will return to the exact same spot, not an inch further. Any initial push, no matter how small, would’ve made the pendulum hit his face. This is pure science. Pure trust. Principle: Conservation of Mechanical Energy When an object is released from a certain height without external force, it converts potential energy to kinetic energy and back but it can never gain energy on its own. #PhysicsIsBeautiful #ScienceInAction #ConservationOfEnergy #TrustInScience #PhysicsDemo #FunScience #EducationalVideo #PendulumExperiment #STEM #MindBlown
