As I continue my journey learning as an apprentice, one thing I have noticed is that the majority of clients/piercees donโt know what a taper is. Often times I see the fear in peopleโs eyes when they get a glance of the taper- and I want to shatter that stigma!
Tapers are nothing to be scared of, if anything they are a helpful tool that is there to PREVENT pain during a jewelry change. If a jewelry change is done right, and the downsize isnโt done too soonโ it shouldnโt hurt much, if at all! If youโre ever concerned about something, never hesitate to ask. A piercer who cares about you will listen to your questions and explain any procedures/tools that you may be confused about. We are always here for you!

THHealing takes patience, perseverance and persistence.
Some people heal quickly, easily and with very little trouble. Some have a few bumps along the way. Others can have ongoing issues even when they are doing everything right.
Just because one piercing healed perfectly on your body does not mean the next one will do the same. Even if it is the same placement. Even if it is the same jewellery. Even if your aftercare is exactly the same.
Your body is a chemical playing field. Stress, hormones, illness, sleep, swelling, pressure, movement, irritation and jewellery quality can all affect how a piercing settles.
Healing is not always linear. A piercing can seem fine one week and irritated the next. That does not always mean something has gone wrong, but it does mean healing needs time, consistency and the right support.
Be patient with your body. Stay consistent. And do not compare one piercing to another, even your own.

POHave a piercing you havenโt worn in a while? Your piercer may be able to help you save it! Your piercer will assess to see if tapering is possible, usually looking for visible entry points that have shrunken but not completely closed. Factors that can influence eligibility are how long you had the piercing, how long itโs been out, and the way your body heals. For example, some clients with connective tissue disorders have longer healing times but once healed their piercings can stay open longer for the exact same reason, it takes a little longer for the body to heal over once the piercing is out. If it truly is closed, you and your piercer can decide if repiercing is right for you ๐ซถ

Healing 3 piercings at the same time can be a little challenging especially when they are close to one another, but with the right after care and down sizing after the swelling has gone down will help maintain a healthy healing process.
THINGS TO AVOID
โข Using alcohol or hydrogen peroxide to clean the areaโ
โข Sleeping on your new piercing โ
โข Getting a hair cut or dying your hair right after getting pierced โ
โขTwirling or Pushing your jewelry up and down โ
*itโs not going to get stuck in one place unless you were pierced with a short bar not giving your skin enough space to swell resulting in the jewelry embedding into the skin*
