🪶🌲 DIY Pinecone Bird Feeder: A Winter Treat for Your Feathered Friends! 🌲🪶 Want to help your local birds this winter? Make a simple pinecone bird feeder using melted suet cakes! It’s easy, fun, and perfect for the whole family. Here’s how: What You’ll Need: 🌟 Large pinecones 🌟 Melted suet cakes (or store-bought suet) 🌟 Birdseed mix 🌟 String or twine How to Make It: 1️⃣ Melt your suet cakes in a saucepan over low heat. OR microwave in 20 second increments in the microwave until melted. Let it cool slightly until it thickens but is still spreadable. 2️⃣ Tie string or twine around the top of your pinecone to make a hanger. 3️⃣ Dip or brush the pinecone in the melted suet, making sure to fill all the crevices. 4️⃣ Roll the suet-covered pinecone in birdseed until fully coated to add extra seeds! 5️⃣ Let it cool and harden, then hang it outside in the garden! My backyard chickadees LOVE these feeders! 💾🐦 Don’t forget to save this post! It’s a great activity to do with kids as the weather gets colder!

Any takers? Birds? Squirrels? I'll be waiting 🏡🩷 Okay, obviously I could have just bought a regular bird feeder. But this way is so much more fun and reminds me of my childhood diy projects! You can make your own DIY bird feeder with a wooden house, cardboard tube, or pinecone. 🥜 Use an ALL-NATURAL peanut butter to coat the object and then cover in birdseed. Then decorate with organic materials like moss, flowers, or twigs if you want. 🐦 Don't worry if birds don't show up right away. It may take a couple weeks. I just set up my feeder, so we'll just have to wait and see. Have fun!

🕊️Make your own bird feeders ideas! Are you taking part in the @rspb #biggardenbirdwatch ? We thought we’d share a few simple ways to make your own bird feeders with little ones at home or in school 🌿 🕊️1 - Melt the coconut oil, then mix in the bird seed. Pack the mixture into a cookie cutter and carefully poke a hole through. Place in the fridge to chill until hardened, then thread with string and hang outside for the birds to enjoy 🐦 🕊️2 - Either use a cardboard tube or cut out a cardboard shape, then spread with peanut butter, (coconut oil or lard if in the classroom) and cover with bird seed. 🕊️3 - Thread chopped apple slices onto string, then roll or press into bird seed before hanging outside for the birds to enjoy 🍎 We’ve loved sharing bird stories and exploring our bird play tray this week using our @yellow_door_education sensory stones available from @ypoinfo – perfect for helping little ones learn about different types of birds through play. @inspiremyplay tray link in my bio! #rspbbiggardenbirdwatch #learnthroughplay #birdfeeders #learnaboutnature

For your tweethearts… If you caught my lit up tree bird feeder reel yesterday, with my fave chickadees eating from them, and you wanna make your own this is the craft for you (and the birds)! A great craft for little hands to get sticky this holiday season too, to make and hang somewhere near a window to watch those hungry chickadees (or whatever tweeties you have nearby!) come to snack! Supplies (I got mine at the dollar store!): * Nyjer seeds (which are excellent for all birds) * Pumpkin seeds * Sunflower seeds * Jute twine * Wood beads * Foraged Pinecones * I used honey as my sticking agent (which won’t ferment in the cold and is great for our northern hungry birds without attracting squirrels in my experience!) If you’re further south, you can also use peanut butter or suet as the sticking agent, but squirrels are highly attracted to these so beware! And you don’t have to make hearts, just using any pinecone as is works great for this craft too, in the winter when it gets to these awful temps I love to help our chickadees out with these feeders. We make them yearly! Don’t forget to like and share with a bird lover, and follow me @life_of_glow for more seasonal ideas and recipes incoming all year!

Get ready for the @rspb Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend and make a pinecone bird feeder for your garden 🤎 You will need: • pinecones • jute string • bird seed • bird suet pellets • an egg box To make: Firstly you will need to soften the bird suet pellets with hot water to make it a nice sticky consistency Tie a length of jute string around the top of your pinecone Roll your pinecone in the sticky suet mixture Cover with bird seed Tie your pinecone feeder to a branch Top tips: 🐦‍⬛I prefer to use bird suet pellets to make our feeders- I know lots of people have made them using peanut butter but with the risk of allergies of anyone attending my sessions and I’m sure I read about it not being best for the birds think this is to do with salt content so I stick with their own suet! It’s a bit messier to soften it down but works perfectly to stick all the seeds to the pinecone 🐦‍⬛It was much easier to have a tray for the suet mixture to make it easier to roll it into the pinecone and then a bowl for the bird seed 🐦‍⬛The pinecones need to be dry so that their scales are open- I dried mine inside the house and then opened up in no time 🐦‍⬛Egg boxes are great for storing and transporting your bird feeders 🐦‍⬛Once they have been eaten you can easily top them back up and tie them back up to a branch again
