Prickly Cone Beetle / Шишечник шипастый (Conispinus irritabilis) Pretends to be a fallen pine cone when it sleeps, making it almost indistinguishable from the real thing. If disturbed, a defense reflex triggers - the scale-plates lift into spines and it dashes away. In two ways it resembles a pangolin: it feeds on ants and is protected by a tough scaly armor. Inhabits coniferous forests. #mockumentary #docufiction #weirdnature #lifeform #alien #forest #nature #beetle #pinecone #pangolin #camouflage #aiart #weird #creature

Our Shingleback skink (Tiliqua rugosa) pal here providing a practical demonstration ~in slowmo~ of their impressive display. When feeling threatened, they will attempt to bluff their way out of the situation. Puffing up, they gape their mouth wide and stick out that vivid blue tongue; which contrasts with their pink mouths, as they try and startle the threat away. If the predator/threat does not back off, they will continue to flatten out their body to look bigger and hiss, and if required utilize their strong jaws to bite. They have quite a few natural predators, as well as introduced ones; however a major threat and cause of death for these lizards is the risk of being hit by cars while attempting to cross the road. I found this individual doing just such a crossing on a busy highway, I quickly stopped to assist them get to the other side safely. As the weather warms up, and our reptiles are emerging, remember to be mindful of our pals. ~ #shingleback #shinglebackskink #shinglebacklizard #bobtaillizard #pineconelizard #stumpy #stumpytail #bogeye #lizard #lizardsofinstagram #reptiles #reptilesofinstagram #reptile #australianlizards #australianreptiles #australia #wildlifeconservation #wildlife #nature #drivesafe #watchforwildlife #lizards

#reptilekeeper #pinecone #tiliqua #bluetongue #bluetongueskink #dino #dragon #lizardlover #lizard #reptiles #reptilelover #reptileofinstagram #cute
