BACAN ADULT DANCERS GO ON POINTE? ✨👇
This comes up A LOT. We’ve all seen those posts where the dander just simply isn’t ready to be on pointe or in fact shouldn’t be thinking about it at all.
The feedback is “yes but it’s their dream” Whilst I totally understand that, it’s up to you the teacher to change that narrative and perception in their minds that as adult dancers that is the ultimate goal or else we haven’t gotten to where we need to.
Firstly, as a young student we only ever go on pointe when we are deemed ready ( or at least you’d hope so ) we then spend literally decades perfecting our craft and trying to master dancing on pointe.
Not only this but by then one bodies, and feet in particular are accustomed to pointe work and are genetically dispositions to do it.
We have pointe at my intensives, especially out advanced group, but anyone who is in the classes who isn’t ready or isn’t suited for pointe either right now or in general will do on flat. They aren’t made to feel bad about that, it’s not the end goal!
There is SO much to work on that doesn’t even include pointe shoes. Fundamentals, turnout, line, transitions, extentions, ports de bras, musicality, artistry, everything!!!
Don’t worry or get FOMO if you aren’t on pointe, if you don’t have desire to go on pointe or if you are facing never going on pointe.
You still matter, you’re still seen and still greatly valued as a dancer. Especially if you’re on my class!

• Get properly fitted shoes
• Build strength (ankles, feet, calves)
• Don’t skip pre-pointe training
• Use the right amount of padding
• Keep nails short + manage calluses
• Lift UP out of your shoes
• Engage turnout + core
• Break shoes in correctly
• Tape pressure points if needed
• Rest when something feels off

Our dancers are well practised at sewing, darning, and manually customising their pointe shoes before they wear them, with many of our dancers going through a pair of pointe shoes per week (or more!) depending on the repertoire the company is performing. That’s a lot of pairs of pointe shoes per year!

AUDancing Sugar Plum through the first half of pregnancy. I didn’t realize how pronounced the changes already were until I looked through old videos. I know it’s only getting more dramatic from here!
